"Most of television broadcasting will be made from films. It will be an efficient and effective method of sending images and sound through the ether. Some of these films will be full-length photoplays, with the usual attendant short subjects - comedies, scenic pictures, news reel, etc...Broadcasting studios will cease to be scenes of worried confusion. Performers will still be brought in occasionally, to make direct appearances, and there will be announcers on hand to issue the weather reports, stock market quotations, correct time and baseball scores; but the bulk of the activity will be in the control room from which the programmes recorded on celluloid, will be projected into space."

About Leslie's Plays
Peg O' My Heart play by J. Hartley Manners Touring production Charley's Aunt play by Brandon Thomas Touring production Leslie says: "My second engagement on the stage was in an ancient farce, Charley's Aunt which had been touring the provinces regularly for over twenty years. One member of this company had played the same part for nine years. Another for fourteen years! They were horrors, poor fellows, they were terrifying. They seems to be not quite human any more. They existed in dismal rooms, from oe dismal town to the nest, and lived only for beer, roast beef and that ghastly rigmarole they went through at every performance." Leslie Ruth says: "It left Leslie deeply depressed." Under Cover directed by Matheson Lang understudied the juvenile lead.
The Freaks play by Arthur Pinero Leslie Ruth says: "it was a short-lived triumph." Strange trivia: Leslie's son Ronald was named after Leslie's character in this play. The Title play by Arnold Bennett
starring Leslie, Aubrey Smith Eva Moore Nigel Playfair and Joyce Carey Leslie Ruth says: "[the play] was an immediate success."

WHY I LIKE-
DRAMATIC ENTRANCE ...
Early Drama Output on British TV.
The 1920's to the 1950's
Although arguably it wasn't until the 1950's that major theatrical productions became a staple diet for British television viewers, with the likes of Laurence Olivier and John Gielgud finally accepting the medium as a serious rostrum to present their considerable talents (see part two of this article), the theatre provided a source of programming even in television's experimental days. The first ever television play was presented by the General Electric Company's test station WGY, Schenectady, N.Y., USA. Written by J. Hartley Manners and adapted by Mortimer Stewart, The Queen's Messenger , a 40-minute transmission on a low-definition 24-line mechanical system developed by Doctor Ernst Alexanderson, was broadcast for the benefit of the television developers in the days before TV sets were commercially available. The date was September 11th 1928. Within a few short months British TV experimenter John Logie Baird presented an experimental transmission of a play from the Baird Company's studios at 133 Long Acre, London. Box and Cox was probably seen by about several dozen viewers in addition to Baird's staff, as a number of amateur constructors were known to have built their own receivers from instructions published in the quarterly magazine
