Marshall County History Marshall County was created by an act of the Virginia General Assembly on March 12, 1835, from parts of Ohio County. The county was named in honor of John Marshall (1755-1835).
John Marshall was born in Germantown, Virginia on September 24, 1755. He served as a soldier during the American Revolutionary War and, after leaving the army in 1781 was licensed to practice law in his home county (Fauquier County). He served as a member of the Virginia General Assembly (1782-1791) and was named a special envoy to France in 1797. In 1798, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives representing Virginia from 1799 to 1800. He was then named Secretary of State by President Thomas Jefferson (1800-1801), and was selected Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court (1801-1835). The court's rulings during his tenure in office, especially Marbury vs. Madison (1803) which established the court's right of judicial review, established Marshall as one of the greatest Chief Justices in American political history. He died on July 6, 1835.
The First Settlers
The first native settlers along the Ohio River in the area of present-day Marshall County were the Mound Builders, also known as the Adena people. Remnants of the Mound Builder's civilization have been found throughout the Ohio River Valley, with a high concentration of artifacts located at Moundsville. The Grave Creek Indian Mound, located in the center of Moundsville, is one of West Virginia's most famous historic landmarks. More than 2,000 years old, it stands 69 feet high and 295 feet in diameter. It was acquired by the state in 1917.

WELCOME
YOKWE, you have reached the website of Logan Pollard. I am currently a senior here at New Mexico Highlands University and will graduate in May 2001. My major is engineering and my minor is in combined science. To see a copy of my resume , please click the link below.
I am currently involved in a research project with the university that is titled Measurement of Downhole Steam Quality and Total Energy By Optical Methods. The ultimate goal of the project is to effectively and reliably measure the quality of steam downhole in an oil field, just above the reserve. Click on the link below for a more detailed account and current progress of the project.
Because of my close ties the the South Pacific islands of the Republic of the Marshall Islands , you can bet that my website is going to be packed with information on the two island chains. Click on the link below for some of my experiences in the RMI and for more websites on the Marshalls.

ROCKEFELLER SECURES VA HEALTH CARE SERVICES FOR VETERANS IN THE LOGAN COUNTY AREA
    - New VA Outpatient Clinic to Open Soon
LOGAN Rockefeller has been pushing to get Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care into this area for some time, and in May, he personally took his concerns to Dr. Thomas Garthwaite, then VA's Acting Under Secretary for Health. "I am delighted that the VA responded to my request and is now ready to provide primary health care services to the veterans living in and around Logan," said Rockefeller. "Too many veterans living in that part of our state have had to travel too far for their VA medical care. Providing veterans the quality health care they deserve means making sure those services are close and convenient. With our veteran population aging, it becomes even more critical to bring VA medical care closer to the communities where our veterans live." As partner with the Department of Family and Community Health at Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, VA will be providing health care services at the family practice office of Logan physician, Dr. Harry Fortner. Veterans currently enrolled with the Huntington VA Medical Center will be given priority to transfer their primary care to the new clinic through a process that will begin in October.
