(1818-1883 d.C.)
Karl Marx, teórico do socialismo e revolucionário alemão (Treves 1818 - Londres 1883).

Karl Marx
was born on May 5, 1818 in the city of Trier, Germany. Marx was a revolutionary who advocated "merciless criticism of everything existing" and was the co-originator of the theories of "Communism." In the autumn of 1843, Marx went to Paris in order to publish a radical journal. It was in Paris in September, 1844 where he first met life-long friend and associate Frederick Engels. Marx and Engels were both active in various revolutionary groups and together worked out the theory and tactics of "Revolutionary Proletarian Socialism" or "Communism." Marx was banished from Paris in 1845 as a dangerous revolutionary. He went to Brussels, Belgium. In the spring of 1847 Marx, along with Engels, joined a secret society called the "Communist League." At the league's request they authored the " Communist Manifesto," which outlines the theory of the class struggle, and of the revolutionary role of the proletariat. Due to his revolutionary activities, Marx was banished from Belgium in February 1848, finally ending up in London in 1849 where he lived until his death. In 1864 the "International Working Men's Association" was founded in London. Marx was a central figure in the new organization, and author of its first statement, and a host of resolutions, declarations and manifestos. His health was undermined by his strenuous work for "International." The first volume of "Das Kapital," Marx's most important work, appeared in 1867. Ultimately ill-health prevented him from completing two other volumes.

Karl Marx (1818 - 1883)
A hugely influential revolutionary thinker and philosopher, Marx did not live to see his ideas carried out in his own lifetime. But his writings formed the theoretical base for modern international communism, which became one of the leading world ideologies of the twentieth century before its ultimate decline in the 1980s and 1990s. Karl Heinrich Marx grew up in the city of Trier in modern day Germany. The son of a successful Jewish lawyer, he studied law in Bonn and Berlin, but was also introduced to the ideas of Hegel and Feuerbach. In 1841, he received a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Jena. In 1843, after a short spell as editor of a liberal newspaper in Cologne, Marx and his wife Jenny moved to Paris, a hotbed of radical thought. There he became a revolutionary communist and befriended his life long collaborator, Friedrich Engels. Expelled from France, Marx spent two years in Brussels, where his partnership with Engels intensified. They co-authored the pamphlet The Communist Manifesto which was published in 1848 and asserted that all human history had been based on class struggles but that these would ultimately disappear with the victory of the proletariat. In 1849 Marx moved to London, where he was to spend the remainder of his life. For a number of years, his family lived in poverty but the wealthier Engels was able to support them to an increasing extent. Gradually, Marx emerged from his political and spiritual isolation and produced his most important body of work, Das Kapital. The first volume of this 'Bible of the Working Class' was published in his lifetime, while the remaining volumes were edited by Engels after his friend's death.

Karl Marx
Marx was the German founder of communism. He followed Hegel's deterministic view that all events come about as a result of the inevitable progress of history, "progress" in that the state passes through different stages. "A nation is assigned the accomplishment of one of these stages, it flourishes for a while and then gives way to another. It then disappears and another, superior State emerges."
With Engels , Marx brought out the Communistic Manifesto
Marx' prescription was to increase the power of the State. In the process the bourgeois family will vanish along with its complement, capital. Specifically, in his Communist Manifesto Marx proposed:
  • Abolition of property in land and application of all rents to public purposes.
  • A heavy progressive income tax.
  • Abolition of all right of inheritance.
  • Confiscation of the property of emigrants and rebels.
  • Centralization of credit in the hands of the State.
  • Centralization of the means of communication and transport...
  • Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State...

Karl Marx Karl Marx was born in Trier on May 5, 1818. He attended school, first at the Trier Gymnasium, then in Bonne and finally Berlin. He studied law and philosophy, obtaining his doctorate in philosophy in 1841. In 1842, he took over management of the Rheinische Zeitung, a progressive publication which was censored so severely that the government still had it taken out of print in April of 1843 despite its complete suppression of much of the more oppositional material! After this, he married Jenny von Westphalen and moved to Cologne to write. It was his continued writing on the sham of the German constitution that prompted the Prussian government to force the French government to expel Marx from the country. He moved to Brussels along with Mark Engels and began to work with him on several publications, most notably the Communist Manifesto , which was published in 1848. At the outbreak of the 1848 February Revolution, Marx was expelled from Belgium. Interestingly enough, the French government invited him to return to the country, and he did so, moving to Paris. In 1849 the government gave him the choice of being interned in Brittany or leaving the country once again. He chose to move to London. From then on he became increasingly famous for his advocation of the uniting of workingmen everywhere. He published hundred of articles and was in contact with many influential members of many country's governments. He bacame a much sought-after theorist. Towards the end of his life, his beloved wife died, in 1881. Two years later, in January of 1883, his eldest daughter passed away, and he followed shortly after, on December 2, 1883.
