Not only did the names constantly change as older members died and new names were added, but the amount allowed to the same individual varied from time to time. The names certify to the loyalty of certain families within the state to the King's cause. - Robert DeMond Robert DeMond, Loyalists in North Carolina During the Revolution Index to Appendix D Parts The page numbers presented at the lower right hand corner between horizontal rules are the actual page numbers from the above-mentioned book. The History of Phrenology on the Web by John van Wyhe , Ph.D. Search Overview The organs Texts ... Bibliography Reading phrenology
As a wide-spread cultural phenomena, phrenology coloured many aspects of life in the 19th century. This is reflected in countless works of fiction and non-fiction from the period. Many writers found phrenological language useful for describing personality or put familiar phrenological terms in the mouths of their characters. The main-stream British phrenologists, under the leadership of the Edinburgh lawyer George Combe, developed a philosophy of natural laws which, through the books on this site, spread naturalism into every niche of Victorian Britain and America. When Darwin published his Origin of Species (1859), natural selection was received by a readership already well-versed in doctrines esteeming the authority of natural laws. Rather than overturning this scheme, Darwin's views meshed with them readily. This philosophy, almost a religion, of natural laws was predominantly spread by two books which almost everyone who could read (and many who couldn't) knew of in the 19th century. These were: Combe's

Record of the Murdoch Family The Murdoch Family are believed to have been originally of highland descent and probably a branch of one of the clans. If so it would appear that they must have come to Ayrshire at a very early period as the name was very common in several of the South Ayrshire Parishes. 1. According to a hand written handed down diary, the first there is any certainty about was a William Murdoch, who is said to have come from Ochiltree to Ayr. He was a master mason and was made a Burgess in 1744. What family he had is uncertain but he had at least one son David (2) who lived at Hollybush, probably at what used to be Mains of Hollybush. 2. David, a cust weaver was born 1723 at Old Byre, Dalrymple. He was twice married and had five sons.

The Passengers of the Mary Kennedy Suggest This Page To A Friend!
Submitted by Cameron McEwen - mcewen@nlx.com There is no known true passenger list for this vessel, but there are many records which show people who arrived on P.E.I. aboard the Mary Kennedy. Cameron has gone through Skye Pioneers and Hebridean Pioneers, by Malcolm MacQueen, and picked out all references to passengers who arrived aboard the vessel. As a further check on those found there, he has cross referenced those passages to information found in later censuses of the lot. As further information is found from other sources, this list will be updated.

Charlottetown, P.E.I. 84 Passengers, Settled Uigg, Orwell, Belfast. Also listed in Nat. Archives, MG 24 I 10, Mary C. Brehaut. From the P.E.I. Register and Gazette , Tues., June 2, 1829. - "84 Immigrants including women and children from the Isle of Skye arrived here on Sunday. They left their native place about 6 weeks ago in a ship for Cape Breton, along with a number of settlers for that Island. They all seem to be in high health and judging from appearance, in easy circumstances. With prudent foresight characteristic of their race they came provided with 12 months of provisions and an ample stock of warm clothing. They all have relatives already settled on the Island chiefly about Belfast, and with the exception of one family it is, we understand, their intention also to settle in that thriving settlement.
