After becoming a monk in early life, Sealsfield ran away from the monastery and for the rest of his life carefully concealed his real name and identity. Dank der großzügigen nachbarlichen Geste ist die Einrichtung trotz des angestrengten Grabens und Schaufelns auf dem Eingangspfad keineswegs vom Alltag abgeschnitten.

Folgekrankheiten sind nicht ausgeschlossen: Michael „Bully“ Herbig hat jetzt die wohltuende monetäre Kraft des Produktmarketings für sich entdeckt. Den Zehn-Millionen-Zuschauer-Film „Der Schuh des Manitu“ gibt es neuerdings auch in gedruckter Form: als „Comedy-Buch“. Das wäre nicht weiter bemerkenswert (und hält sich angesichts der Verhältnisse in Sachen Filmvermarktung in nun wirklich engen Grenzen), hätte sich nicht ausgerechnet der Karl-May-Verlag, jener Sittenwächter in Sachen ernsthafter May-Bearbeitung, für das Werk zum Film verwendet. Hatte doch die verlegerische Einrichtung aus Bamberg und Radebeul seinerzeit äußerst verschnupft auf eine ähnlich lustige Zweitverwertung reagiert, als sich Rio Reiser bei der Gestaltung seiner CD „Rio am Piano I“ des May-Werke-Layouts bediente. Das Ergebnis war ein Prozess. Einen gehustet haben die Bamberger auch den Herausgebern der historisch-kritischen Karl-May-Ausgabe, als die ihr Werk als noch historisch-kritischer darstellten als die damals 77 Bände der verlagseigenen gesammelten Werke. Herbig jedenfalls hat bei alledem nicht den Humor verloren: Der will jetzt die Zuschauer seiner Bully-Parade darüber abstimmen lassen, womit er als Nächstes sein Geld verdienen soll: mit der Fortsetzung des „Schuhs“, Star-Trek-Parodie, Sissi-Verfilmung oder einem Film namens „Wo keiner damit rechnet“. Es dürfte wohl auf ersteres hinauslaufen. Schließlich werden Schuhe in der Regel als Paar verkauft.

This German studies course examines how writers and intellectuals in the 19th century imagined and witnessed Germany's transformation from a backward "Monstrum" (Pufendorf) divided into hundreds of small kingdoms and provinces into a modern unified state, from a feudal agrarian order into a bourgeois-capitalist society.
