Barnett Chapel Cemetery A~F...
Picture by Kathy Moore This cemetery was indexed by Mrs. Hallie Foster who first walked the cemetery back in the early 60's and by Jim Harbison, who continued to compile information in the 1990's. Information sent in by Tonya Powell. Barnett Cemetery is located five miles east of Elberfeld on Road 900N. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in the area with burials dating back to the early 1800's. The cemetery is comprised of land donated originally by Dave Barnett and the land later given by Jasper Greer. A newspaper article of 1960 states that the cemetery was approximately 150 years old. Available records show a four year old child, Sarah Barton, as being buried in 1833. Joshua Brammer, buried in 1855 at age 22, is the first adult listed herein. Mary (Smith) Greer, the wife of Richard, was the first to reach an elderly age of those that can be traced. She was buried here in 1858 after having reached the age of 71. There is no doubt that burials took place prior to these dates but records to substantiate them are lacking. Abbreviations listed below. Numbers and letters following the age are the row and section number in the cemetery.

See-Saw
S HE was a harlot, and I was a thief: But we loved each other beyond belief: She lived in the garret, and I in the kitchen, And love was all that we both were rich in. When they sent her at last to the hospital, Both day and night my tears did fall. They fell so fast, that, to dry their grief, I borrowed my neighbor's handerchief. The world, which, as it is brutally taught, Still judges the act in lieu of the thought, Found my hand in my neighbour's pocket, And clapped me, at once, under chain and locket. When they asked me about it, I told them plain Love it was that had turned my brain: How should I heed where my hand had been, When my heart was dreaming of Celestine? Twelve friends were so struck by my woful air, That they sent me abroad for a change of air: And, to prove me the kindness of their intent, They sent me at charge of the Government. When I came back again, whom, think you, I meet But Celestine, here in Regent Street?
