A.A. MILNE (1882-1956) - THE CREATOR OF WINNIE THE POOH (AND TIGGER TOO!)
A.A. Milne was raised in London with his two brothers David Barrett Milne and Kenneth John Milne and all attended their father’s school, Henley House. It was there, at Henley House, did A.A. Milne find his inspiration in through one of his teachers, H.G. Wells who in turn developed into a famous writer and close friend to Alan. From Henley House Alan went to Westminster school and then onto Cambridge to follow a Mathematics scholarship where his brother Ken and himself were published in The Granta and formed a partnership writing light verse. After a couple of years Ken departed and Alan went solo and one of his life long ambitions was granted … he became Editor of Granta. On completion of the boys’ education, their father, John Vince Milne, gave each of his sons' £1,000. With this Alan fled to London and started his career as an author. Soon the money ran out and Alan was forced to accept a job as a freelance writer for a local newspaper. Meanwhile, A.A. Milne started to write his second book. During this time Alan met a young lady, Owen Seamen’s goddaughter - Dorothy De Selincourt and they were married in 1913.

The History A.A. Milne
A.A Milne, the creator of Winnie the Pooh and his friends, was born Alan Alexander Milne in London on January 18, 1882. He was the youngest son of London schoolteachers, which is no surprise when he learned to read at 2. As a schoolboy, he wrote verses, parodies, and short humourous pieces for the school paper. Later, he went to Cambridge, where he edited the undergraduate paper. In 1903, he left school and went to London to write, and in 1906, he was offered a position at Punch Magazine, where he was the assistant editor for the next 8 years, during the time that he wrote his first book. He married Dorothy Daphne de Selincourt, god-daughter of Punch's editor, Owen Seaman, in 1913, and they moved to Chelsea, England. His play production in 1919, of Mr. Pim Passes By became a huge success, and on August 21, 1920, he had a son named Christopher Robin. Christopher Robin had many stuffed animals that all lived in the 100 Acre Woods, which Milne had based his stories on. He published When We Were Very Young (1924), a collection of verses illustrated by Ernest Shepard. Christopher Robin had an affection for a bear name Winnie at the London Zoo, which later inspired him to write children's books about Winnie and Christopher Robin's stuffed animals. Some titles of his children's books and verses include:
