Two major analytical techniques are used: fluorescence spectroscopy and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Our fluorescence spectroscopy research efforts are focused on the longer wavelength region of the electromagnetic spectrum, the near-infrared (NIR) region. The NIR region is advantageous due to the inherent low interference and the high molar absorptivities of the NIR absorbing chromophores. When NIR spectroscopy is coupled with the use of semiconductor lasers and detectors, an especially useful technique emerges. Semiconductor lasers have all the properties of other types of lasers with the added benefits of compactness, lower power consumption and low cost. Semiconductor detectors have their spectral sensitivity maximum in this region, further increasing the utility of this technique. We are currently studying several bioanalytical applications. These include, but are not limited to, NIR DNA sequencing; NIR fluorescence immunoassays, including fiber optic and conventional applications; DNA probe techniques; pH, metal ion and hydrophobicity determinations. Additionally, new environmentally important NIR analytical techniques are studied in our research group, including separation and bioremediation applications. Another component of our studies is the development of new biosensors using fiber optic techniques. Our HPLC research is mainly focused on new high sensitivity detection methods, bioseparations and NIR labeling techniques. The final aspect of our studies deals with analytical chemistry aspects of environmentally and economically sound plastic recycling methods.

It is the major pulse crop of the semiarid tropics, has been used for centuries in intercropping systems, and is an ideal source of fodder, food and firewood in agroforestry systems. BOTANY C. cajan (L.) Millsp. is a leguminous shrub that can attain heights of 5 m. Pigeonpea probably evolved in South Asia and appeared about 2000 BC in West Africa, which is considered a second major center of origin. The slave trade took it to the West Indies, where its use as bird feed led to the name "pigeonpea" in 1692 (van der Maesen 1986). Leaves are trifoliate and spirally arranged on the stem. Flowers occur in terminal or axillary racemes, are 2-3 cm long (Purseglove 1968), and are usually yellow, but can be flocked or streaked with purple or red. Pods are flat, usually green in color, sometimes hairy, sometimes streaked or colored dark purple, with 2-9 seeds/pod. Seeds are, widely variable in color, 6-9 nun in diameter, and weigh 4-25 g/100 seed (Sheldrake 1984).

Various techniques have been utilized to classify arrhythmias. Generally, these techniques classify two or three arrhythmias or have significantly large processing times. A simpler autoregressive modeling (AR) technique is proposed to classify normal sinus rhythm (NSR) and various cardiac arrhythmias including atrial premature contraction (APC), premature ventricular contraction (PVC), superventricular tachycardia (SVT), ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF). Methods AR Modeling was performed on ECG data from normal sinus rhythm as well as various arrhythmias. The AR coefficients were computed using Burg's algorithm. The AR coefficients were classified using a generalized linear model (GLM) based algorithm in various stages.

A.R.Rahman is the hottest composer in town today. A name that has to its credit the mega hit music of films like Roja, Bombay, Rangeela, Dil Se the list goes on. It was the first ever Indian album that got a simultaneous mainstream release across 27 countries. He continues his patriotic, musical Odessey with his Bharath Bala Production ‘Jana Gana Mana 2000 Album’ released on January 27th by Rashtrapathi K.R.Narayanan. Rahman had earlier hoped for the day when people remembered him more for ‘Vande Mataram’ than his “Muqabala ” and “Mustafa ” songs. That it has come true must be a matter of great satisfaction and pride for him now.
