These pages may be viewed much like a library book, but I do not approve of any type of reproduction in any format. Persons or organizations desiring to use the information contained within in my web pages MUST obtain my written consent. All information is for Non-Profit use only. This rural cemetery is located about seven miles south of Farmington, Minnesota or just west of the town of Castle Rock along 280th Street or Carver County Road 86. The cemetery has regular care and is in good shape. It appears that many of the older burial monuments may have been replaced. Rev. Edward D. Neill's book "The History of Dakota County and the city of Hastings" lists the Greenvale Cemetery as Union Cemetery (page 387). To my knowledge these are the same cemetery. Rev. Neill also writes: '...Union Cemetery is located on the north side of section 1. It contains about three acres and was surveyed in June 1873. The first grown person buried in it was Thomas Hodgson. It now contains quite a number of graves... The cemetery originated in Castle Rock Grange, then holding meetings in the Union School House in Eureka (page 387).' This cemetery was transcribed during 1996.

Oren L's grandfather Allen* Swan (should be Orrin), one of the pioneer settlers of the county came from England, and took part in the Revolutionary War, being one of the officers. The family is noted for longitivity. Mr. Swan married Rebecca Gunn in 1873. He has always been engaged in farming, either in Tuscarora or Addison, and also makes a business of hay pressing.

    Worcester State Hospital
    Hillside Cemetery
    Shrewsbury, Massachusetts

Hillside Cemetery is located on Lake Street in Shrewsbury. It was once the site of a 120 acre Hillside Farm operated by Worcester State Hospital for the mentally ill. Patients who died at the hospital ended up being buried at Hillside. There are two sections with a total of more that 1,600 graves, each marked only by a concrete brick into which was inscribed a number. People from the Department of Mental Retardation's Glavin Regional Center are now replacing these bricks with flat granite stones that has the names and dates of the deceased.
This restoration work is for "Remembering with Dignity", to properly memorialialize the many who were foresaken in life. We will not forget them in death.
    Hillside Cemetery West
(the older section) was completed and rededicated in 1999, while Hillside Cemetery East is nly about 5% complete.
