Trees...
The rolling hills of Oregon
with their peaceful giant trees
reach out to touch
the skys white clouds
and yawns with gentle ease.
A clearing here for a deer to run
an opening there by a stream,
when I chanced upon a raped mountain side a place you could hear the Earth scream. A few trees stood between the road and the scar which marked this place. As if that should serve to sooth the heart which ached for the ravaged face. which could look upon this rich, green Earth with a vision of love for the land. Dedicated to Julia Butterfly Hill, who in 1997, climbed 180 feet up into a thousand year covenant of protection for Luna and the area around her beloved tree. "We can accomplish only what we can first imagine." "It's not love's going (that) hurts my days

After being baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus went without food for forty days and at the end of this time He was famished.
Matthew 4:2 ...It was 1953 and we were both in second grade. I was the "smart" one and she was the "dumb" one, or so I thought. I made life a living hell for that poor girl, and she just took it! Gentle and shy, Nancy was about eleven years old, and it had taken her years to reach second grade. She had difficulty reading and writing. All the kids made fun of her, especially me. ...We called her stupid, ugly, smelly, dirty and Nancy never fought back. until, one day, something changed. I went to a Bible class and Nancy was there, sitting by herself, in the back. The Bible story was about the trial of Jesus. Father McKeever, told us how the Son of God was spat on, beaten and kicked. he made us wince as he described the crown of thorns being pushed and pounded into the flesh and bone of our Lord's skull. I could feel the nails, piercing His wrists and feet. ...Then Father repeated the mocking words, that had been hurled at the "Holy Innocent," paused for a moment, his eyes filled with tears, he looked at Nancy, in the back of the room, all alone, and then his steel blue eyes were on me. I felt that I was the only one in the room, and that this kind, man of God was speaking only to me.
