NATIONAL CELEBRATIONS Holidays in the United States
Photograph from Digital Stock
Americans share three national holidays with many countries: Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Easter , which falls on a spring Sunday that varies from year to year, celebrates the Christian belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For Christians, Easter is a day of religious services and the gathering of family. Many Americans follow old traditions of coloring hard-boiled eggs and giving children baskets of candy. On the next day, Easter Monday, the president of the United States holds an annual Easter egg hunt on the White House lawn for young children. Christmas Day , December 25, is another Christian holiday; it marks the birth of the Christ Child. Decorating houses and yards with lights, putting up Christmas trees, giving gifts, and sending greeting cards have become traditions even for many non-Christian Americans. New Year's Day , of course, is January 1. The celebration of this holiday begins the night before, when Americans gather to wish each other a happy and prosperous coming year.
UNIQUELY AMERICAN HOLIDAYS Eight other holidays are uniquely American (although some of them have counterparts in other nations). For most Americans, two of these stand out above the others as occasions to cherish national origins: Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July.

United States Historical Places
... Capital Cities Presidents of the United States There was a debate, when George Washington became the first president, of what to call this highest of elected officers. "His Elective Majesty" was one of the suggestions and "His Highness, the President of the United States and Protector of the Rights of the Same" was another. The House of Representatives finally decided on the simple title, "President of the United States". The Constitution refers to five jobs that the president is responsible for : the head of state, the chief diplomat, the chief executive, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, and the chief citizen of the United States. Each president swears to defend the constitution of the United States and to protect the interests, freedoms, and rights of all citizens. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd president expanded on the role of the president. He said, "There is nothing mysterious about the foundations of a healthy and strong democracy...They are: equality of opportunity for youth and for others, jobs for those who can work, security for those who need it, the ending of special privilege for the few, the preservation of civil liberties for all, the enjoyment of the fruits of scientific progress in a wider and constantly rising standard of living."

President Who?
by Stanley L. Klos
For A Complete Listing of US Constitutional Presidents go to Page Two. The following historical documentation lends proof to the thesis statement that ten men held the office of US President prior to the inauguration of George Washington in 1789.  The Journals of the Continental Congress (Housed at the National Archives in Washington DC) clearly prove the existence of a US Presidency by their legislative actions, resolutions, detailed recognition of the Presidency by foreign leaders and the actual formation of the office by the ratification of the Articles of Confederation Important Presidential questions and facts have been lost to the public due to misinformation from a most important period of US History, 1774 to 1788.  Straightforward questions such as Which President wrote the resolution that declared our Independence on July 2, 1776?
Which President convinced Maryland to ratify the Articles of Confederation?
Which President conspired with the Adams and the Lees to replace George Washington as Commander-in-Chief with Horatio Gates
Which President was imprisoned in the Tower of London?
