The Mosher Press Series Books Printed on Vellum in the United States
A Tentative List and Work-In-Progress This list of American books printed on vellum was first constructed by Decherd Turner The list has been further corrected and augmented by Philip R. Bishop with Decherd Turner's consent, and is here mounted in hopes that librarians, curators, collectors, and book lovers will assist in it's refinement by making corrections, adding copy information, and apprising us of any desiderata. Please send any such additions to Phil Bishop . The list will be updated as new information becomes available. Items not appearing in the main list include small private press keepsakes, broadsides, limited edition portraits or prints, and the broadside citations, appointments, etc., printed by the US government. For purposes of this Mosher Press website, readers will note that all Mosher entries are highlighted in color. It is a little known fact that Thomas Bird Mosher produced more printed vellum book titles by different authors over a comparative period of time than any other printer or publisher in America (46 titles / 47 volumes). However, in terms of sheer volume (the amount of square feet of vellum used), George D. Sproul's vellum printings certainly surpass the amount Mosher consumed, and the all time record for volume of printing on vellum most assuredly belongs to the Frederick J. Quinby Company of Boston who, from 1902-04, brought out 10 sets of 48 volumes of Charles Paul de Kock's writings printed on vellum. Covering 28 titles, this mammoth production lives up to its designated name: the "Bibliomaniac Edition."

History
of
Journalism
CMMN A450 , History of Journalism surveys the origin and development of journalism in the United States in the context of U.S. political, social, and economic history. It covers major newspapers, magazines and electronic media agencies and important figures within each field.
The text is Sloan, William David and James D. Startt. The Media in America: A History . 4th ed. Northport, AL: Vision Press, 1999. Two additional books are required: a biography or autobiography, and the history of a newspaper or other journalistic organization. You are to write a review of each one during one class session, as shown on the calendar. You may use the book and notes you have taken, but nothing else. Reviews are to be written in blue books (large size: 8 1/2" x 11"). A list of books for reviewing is posted below.
Two examinations will be given: February 20: Mid-term exam: Chapters 1-10. The exam will be given at no other time. May 9: Final exam, which is cumulative, will be a take-home examination, due no later than 4 p.m.; no exam will be accepted after that time.

Mary E. Stewart
I have no idea what my parents expected when they moved to New York for my father's job with Today magazine. My father, William C. (Bill) Stewart , was managing editor of Today from the first issue until April 1935. This was the reason for his initial contact with Sherwood Anderson. They became friends, and my parents visited the Andersons at Ripshin. Their friendship continued even after Bill left Today and there was no business reason to maintain contact. Bill was born in Brownwood, Texas, in 1907. He was interested in writing and drawing from an early age. He was on the staff of various publications at his high school, including serving as editor-in-chief of The Tattler, a semi-monthly magazine. Several of his drawings were included in the yearbook. He stayed in Brownwood to attend Howard Payne College and to work for the Brownwood Bulletin. He left Howard Payne after a disagreement with the faculty regarding his work on the college paper. The story I remember hearing was that he had written an article saying people should be allowed to smoke on campus, and the college did not approve of smoking or writing in favor of it. In 1928 he spent his vacation driving through the South and writing about his experiences. Shortly after this, he left the Bulletin to work for Scripps-Howard papers in Memphis and Birmingham. From the Birmingham
