But Is It Science Fiction? - Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged by John C. Snider “Thousands of years ago, the first man discovered how to make fire. He was probably burned at the stake he had taught his brothers to light. He was considered an evildoer who had dealt with a demon mankind dreaded. But thereafter men had fire to keep them warm, to cook their food, to light their caves. He had left them a gift they had not conceived and he had lifted darkness off the earth. Centuries later, the first man invented the wheel. He was probably torn on the rack he had taught his brothers to build. He was considered a transgressor who ventured into forbidden territory. But thereafter, men could travel past any horizon. He had left them a gift they had not conceived and he had opened the roads of the world.” In the final pages of Ayn Rand’s first major novel The Fountainhead , embattled architect Howard Roark closes his own trial defense with the above pronouncement.

Ayn Rand (1905-1982) Among Ayn Rand's books glorifying capitalism and the crassist form of bourgeois philosophy is the one called The Virtue of Selfishness . That should tell you pretty much all about her and her philosophy that you need to know.
Ayn Rand wrote much nonsense on virtue Which she claimed would certainly hurt you Unless it is selfish She said in her elfish But sinister scheme to pervert you. JSH, "Moral Perversion"
Ayn Rand produced a lot of books Whose viewpoint seems just right to crooks. The gist inside their covers: "Get yours; screw all the others." JSH, "Ayn Rand"
Ayn Rand's philosophy is so ridiculous that it is almost its own self-parody:
And now I see the face of god, and I raise this god over the earth, this god whom men have sought since men came into being, this god who will grant them joy and peace and pride. This god, this one word: I Ayn Rand, Anthem

Ayn Rand
Ayn Rand is the author of the classic American novels The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged and the originator of a comprehensive philosophical system called "Objectivism" that emphasizes the primacy of human reason, the moral importance of individualism and the necessity of political freedom.
Born in St. Petersburg, Russia and educated in Soviet universities, Rand emigrated to the United States in her early twenties and settled in Hollywood where she worked in the film industry as an extra and a screenwriter. Rand went on to success as a novelist, beginning with We the Living and Anthem and followed by the best-selling The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged . The later novels won Rand a coterie of devoted followers who were attracted to her stirring arguments for the morality of individualism and laissez faire capitalism.
