Gordon Jones
This French translation of “Jules Verne at Home”, commissioned in 1990 by the Bulletin de la Soci©t© de Jules Verne BSJV) , was the first one made of Jones's important article. However, the editor of the BSJV refused to publish it. It appears here, therefore, for the first time.
A commentary by William Butcher on this article has appeared, as “L'incompris, ou la propagation d'un mythe” Ayant ©crit de Paris pour demander l'honneur d'un entretien avec le romancier v©t©ran, je fus gratifi©, en revenant   Amiens, de trouver sa carte qui m'attendait, inscrite du simple message : « Demain, jeudi,   10h. ».

The following is from a volume entitled Outline Studies in English Literature by William Cliff Martin, published by Prentice-Hall in 1929. Although the author contends his volume is "not a teacher's syllabus," it nevertheless arises out of the problem of trying to construct one (see "Preface"). What it constitutes is an attempt to solve the problem of the "Survey of English Literature" course of study, which is an anthological problem, by breaking it into separate "outlines" which correspond more or less to recognizable syllabi. What follows is the author's preface and the portion of the "Victorian Literature" outline that deals with the novel.
