Sinner's Sermon Cold World Lyrics by Chris Carter music by Chris Carter and Reilly She wrote her number down, on a guest check I was pullin down, on a long neck Things were turnin out, like a train wreck She leaned against the bar, let the pain show Turned her worried face, toward the window Took a long look far away, let her breath go It’s a cold world, to be lost in It’s a hard world, to be soft in It’s a cheap world, to be costin so much Baby when will you be comin home She said ain’t there a place, I can fit in A tiny bit of space, just to sit in Or an answerable face, I can spit in It’s a cold world, to be lost in It’s a hard world, to be soft in It’s a cheap world, to be costin so much Baby when will you be comin home She wrote her number down, on a guest check I was pullin down, on a long neck Things were turnin out, like a train wreck It’s a cold world, to be lost in It’s a hard world, to be soft in It’s a cheap world, to be costin so much

VPNs and IPSec Demystified
by Dru Lavigne
So far in the cryptosystems series, we have taken a look at general cryptographic terminology and the SSH cryptosystem (including configuration ). In today's article, I'll start off with how VPNs work and then concentrate on the IPSec standard. A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is a cryptosystem that allows you to secure your data as it travels over an insecure network such as the Internet. While this may sound similar to the SSH cryptosystem, VPNs have a different purpose. SSH was designed to allow a user to login securely to and remotely administer another computer. A VPN is designed to allow a user to access transparently the resources of a network. As far as the user is concerned, she will be able to do anything she normally would be able to do, even when she is away from the network. Because of this, VPNs are popular with telecommuters and with offices that need to share resources over physically separate locations.
VPN Tunnels
Before configuring a VPN, you should be aware of the terminology it uses and some of the configuration pitfalls. Let's start with some terminology. A VPN always consists of a point-to-point link known as a

Cryptosystems: Debugging IPSec
by Dru Lavigne
In the last article , we configured the files necessary to negotiate an IPSec VPN using racoon . I have a lot of troubleshooting scenarios to cover this week, so let's carry on where we left off. The one configuration I purposefully left out last time is the necessary changes to the firewall ruleset. You might remember that we need to allow UDP port 500 for IKE and protocol number 50 for ESP. The syntax for those rules will depend upon whether your system is protected by ipfw ipfilter , or is behind another type of firewall. It will also depend upon the order of the existing rules in your ruleset and the degree of paranoia dictated by your security policy. For now, create two rules near the top of your ruleset. We may have to tweak their placement later on when we start working with the negotiated tunnel. Here is an example of some rules to an ipfw ruleset: #rules to allow IPSec VPN add 00201 allow log esp from any to any add 00203 allow log udp from any 500 to any Until you are happy with your tunnel, you should use the

Life of Reilly
A conversation between Boogie Nights director Paul Thomas Anderson and his favorite actor, John C. Reilly , reveals what it’s like for Reilly to be starring in Anderson’s new Magnolia , which features a supporting player named Tom Cruise
John C. Reilly is an unsung hero of American movies. The appealingly grizzled, gruff-looking 34-year-old has given indelible performance in movies like What’s Eating Gilbert Grape Dolores Claiborne Georgia Boogie Nights ... The Thin Red Line and For the Love of the Game without attaining critical-darling status the way a showier actor might have. Reilly’s cult following is made up of those who appreciate an absolute natural. It isn’t so much that you don’t catch him making a false move. It’s more like you don’t catch him acting. Reilly’s biggest Hollywood fan is Paul Thomas Anderson, the writer/director who has used him most astutely to date, first in Hard Eight , then in Boogie Nights , and now in his new film, Magnolia . Anderson has such confidence in Reilly that, even though

Steve Interviewed by Jim Reilly

October 22, 2001 A series of Jim Reilly's interviews with players, fans, and the people behind the scenes of the Chapman Stick. These interviews can be heard regularly on CFBX radio, 92.5 FM in Kamloops, B.C. Canada. Steve Adelson's
The Answer's Inside
What do you get when you combine one of the foremost Chapman Stick players with a seasoned group of New York musicians, and then throw in a couple of music legends?
If you are Steve Adelson, you get one of the most exciting and accessible CDs to feature The Chapman Stick. Steve's new album, "The Answer's Inside", picks up where his last disc Sailing Down the River, Sane leaves off, offering a feast of jazz forms and sounds. From the Latin influenced "Fran's Mambo" to the McCoy Tyner inspired "The Answer is Free," Steve has managed to fuse a tight, concise group sound that places the overall music ahead of virtuoso musicianship.
After a quick congratulations on the Yankee's 2-1 win over the Mariners and quicker geography lesson to locate just where my home town of Kamloops is in relation to New York, Steve and I got down to business. We spoke about the new album, making music with some really great players, the state of Stick playing in New York and looked towards the future. And those music legends Steve worked with? Don't worry we talked about Larry Coryell and Tony Levin as well. Jim Reilly: Let's start off with the new CD. What were your plans and goals going into the recording?

An Improper Proposal Portrait of My Heart Where Roses Grow Wild Lady of Skye by Patricia Cabot (Pocket Sonnet, $6.50, PG-13) ISBN 0-7434-1027-0 Dr. Reilly Stanton, eighth Marquis of Stillworth, is suffering from a case of badly wounded pride. Miss Christine King, lovely London miss, has broken their engagement, claiming he’s not heroic enough for her tastes. In order to prove her wrong, Reilly has come to the wilds of Skye. He hopes that he’ll be able to win his ladylove’s admiration by saving a few of the Hebridean savages. Now, before you click off to another review on this website, let me assure you that this rather twittish-sounding premise is delivered in a tongue-in-cheek style with more than a touch of slapstick. Reilly arrives on Skye in the company of several sailors and their dead companion, whom Reilly has pulled from the icy sea. The body is borne to a local tavern, whereupon a tall woman named Brenna arrives and brings the man back to life with a well-placed thump between the shoulder blades. Damn. Reilly’s first shot at heroism and he’s already blown it. Brenna Donnegal is the island’s “doctor”, a healer with more to her background than she lets on. The local earl, Glendenning, is pestering Brenna to marry him and in order to force her hand, he’s sent for Reilly to be the new doctor. Then, Glendenning reasons, Reilly will have to take over Brenna’s cottage and Brenna will be left with no choice but to move in with Glendenning.
