Mahony, Thomas F. (CMAH)
T.F.M. = Thomas F. Mahoney Thomas F. Mahony (1873-1957) donated his papers to the University of Notre Dame in 1961 At that time an inventory and item list was compiled. A new computerized finding aid for the collection was prepared in 1990. This register includes: The collection measures three and a half feet in three boxes. It has been broken down into three series: Correspondence, Writings by Mahony, and Printed Material. The bulk of the material relates to Mahony's efforts on the part of Mexican migrant laborers, with some material on Mahony's early professional efforts. Little is present in the way of family or personal material. The box/folder list includes entries for series and sub-series titles as well as box/folder numbers. A series is denoted by a dollar sign ($). The entries for the box/folder listing contain two numbers separated by a slash (/); an entry such as 1/3 refers to Box 1/ Folder 3, 1/4-10 refers to Box 1/ Folders 4 through 9; and 1-10/ refers to Boxes 1 through 10.
Biographical Sketch
Thomas F. Mahony was born in 1873 on his family's farm in Meadville, PA. While Mahony was still young the family moved to Ashtabula, Ohio where Mahony grew up, the eldest of seven children in a devout Irish Catholic household. The senior Mahony was a butcher, and the family was not wealthy. Mahony had only five to six years of formal education, but as a child and young man he read voraciously.

An Inventory of His Papers at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center
    Descriptive Summary
Creator: Brussel, I.R. (Isidore Rosenbaum) 1895- Title: I. R. Brussel Papers Dates: 1903-1973 (bulk 1929-1970) Abstract: Papers consist mainly of incoming correspondence from the many authors, book dealers, and book collectors who were both colleagues and friends of Brussel, with very few responses by Brussel present. The collection highlights Brussel's work in the book trade over five decades. Quantity: 1.5 boxes (.62 linear feet) Identification: Repository: Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, University of Texas at Austin
    Biographical Sketch
Brussel contributed two volumes to Sadleir's Bibliographica series: Anglo-American First Editions, 1826-1900, East to West (1935), and its counterpart West to East, (1936) which described and analyzed English editions of books by American authors. Brussel died on March 16, 1972, in Brooklyn, at the age of 74.
    Scope and Contents
One and a half document boxes highlight I. R. Brussel's career as a book scout. Containing mainly correspondence, the collection also includes clippings, illustrations, invoices, printed materials, and a very few photographs. The collection is arranged into three series: I. Individual Correspondence, 1925-1969 (bulk 1929-1935); II. General Correspondence, 1930-1972 (bulk 1950-1970); and III. Other Materials, 1903-1973. Although the date range of the collection spans seventy years, only a single printed item dates from earlier than 1929.
