A. M. Adams took land at the present site of West Plains in 1839, but sold the next year to Josiah Howell. (See Town Spring.) ( Place Names Albina An early post-office kept by Albin Perkins in his home one and one-half miles south of the site of Pomona. Name coined from Mr. Perkins' christian name. Later, a Mr. Harris kept it near Rudville School, (q.v.) until Olden (q.v.) was established, when it was moved to that village. Mrs. Kinion says that when the post-office was established as early as 1867, for when her father Newton C. Epps, moved to the community in that year, they got their mail once a week. ( Place Names

The earliest books which are commonly described as the beginnings of American literature were written by men born and bred in England; alan. tnev were published there; they were, in fact, an 1 Huntington v. From the beginning New England, owing to the character of its people and its ecclesiastical rule, was the chief seat of the early literature, and held a position apart from the other colonies as a community characterized by an intellectual life. There the first printing press was set up, the first college founded, and an abundant literature was produced. The literature of the first century, exemplified by these few titles, is considerable in bulk, and like colonial literature elsewhere is preserved for historical reasons.
