What is Witchcraft? Witchcraft is the continuation of the native cultural beliefs and practices of the ancient Europeans as they continued to be passed down and followed, generation after generation, after the advent of Christianity. Witchcraft is the name that was given to these practices by the Catholic Church and was not the name by which those who followed these beliefs and practices originally called their religion.

Our Stance On Wicca
is that everyone has the right to their own beliefs. We believe that people, regardless of their religion, should understand their chosen religion and why they believe as they do. Today, far too many people are ignorant of their religion and rely on poorly documented books and authors to instruct them on what they claim to be their beliefs. The information and questions contained in this website will hopefully help those who truly seek to learn, to question their own religious paradigm. The key element to ANY religion is to truly understand your beliefs.

Two Scottish Boys:
HUGH MACDIARMID AND LEWIS GRASSIC GIBBON
by John Manson
My theme is a brief contrast and comparison between MacDiarmid and Gibbon, the two most charismatic figures in twentieth century Scottish Literature. They were nearly contemporary, Gibbon having been born nine years later in 1901 although MacDiarmid survived him by 43 years until 1978.
MacDiarmid was a Borderer whose father was a postman in Langholm, earning a regular wage for regular hours. Gibbon was a North-east man whose father was a crofter in Auchterless and Arbuthnott, working all hours for an income that varied with prices at the mart.
Niger: The Life of Mungo Park
The influence of the Telford Library in Langholm and the Coats Library in Arbuthnott is well-known. They were fortunate in their schoolmasters, F.G. Scott and William Burt in Langholm and Alexander Gray in Arbuthnott. Rev. T.S. Cairncross and Rev. Peter Dunn were also influential.
At sixteen MacDiarmid became a pupil teacher at Broughton Junior Student Centre; at fifteen and a half Gibbon went to the Mackie Academy, Stonehaven. MacDiarmid was allowed to resign on the grounds of health and mistaking his vocation (following a misdemeanour); Gibbon walked out after a dispute with the Rector who had implied that Socialists were pro-German.
Both became journalists immediately afterwards, MacDiarmid in Edinburgh and Wales, Gibbon in Aberdeen and Glasgow.

Like the oceans, the solid crust of Earth also moves to a lunar rhythm. While the seas rise and fall by a worldwide average of three feet daily, the ground oscillates by about eight inches (scientists measure this with satellites). This mutation is not merely a surface phenomenon; the entire planet undergoes constant and complex rhythmic deformations. What's remarkable is that they're so small. It's evidence that our planet is incredibly well built. To have a body as massive and as near as the Moon, and to have our planet changed so little by its presence, means that Earth is one of the solar system's construction success stories.

    The Four Cities
    Working With The Sacred Directions
Author's Note: I also recommend to you a very different and unique presentation of the Sacred Directions found in The Apple Branch, a Path to Celtic Ritual, Alexie Kondratiev, 1998 , Collins Press, Cork , Ireland. (ISBN 1-898256-42-X). This remarkable book, of fine scholarship and integrity, should be read by everyone involved in spiritual work within Celtic tradition. R J Stewart
What follows is the original Four Cities guided vision first created and published by R J Stewart. Others have copied it since publication in 1992, but we offer this original freely for your meditations, visions, and delight. THE FOUR CITIES is a unique original work by R J Stewart, inspired by the ancient Irish theme of the Four Cities of the Tuatha de Danann. This is not a traditional text or a historic translation: it is an inspired work of fiction designed and written for group and individual use in meditation, visualization, dream, and inner transformation. The Four Cities was created in Britain, where many students and co-workers experienced the visualizations in workshops, classes, and private meetings between 1988 and 1996. The Element Books edition, in Earth Light was published worldwide in 1992 from a manuscript written in 1989. The book has also been translated into German.

    53. Divine Forges
how I had seen them. »It was not a dream«, he said. I know nowwhat he meant. Fiona MacLoud (= William Sharp, 18551905) Iona.
    http://www.celtoslavica.de/celtica/forges.html
    The Divine Forges
A T LEAST I dreamed, and thus: The skies to the west beyond the seas were not built of flushed clouds, but of transparent flame. These flames rose in solemn stillness above a vast forge, whose anvil was the shining breast of the sea. Three great Spirits stood by it, and one lifted a soul out of the deep shadow that was below; and one with his hands forged the soul of its dross and welded it anew; and the third breathed upon it, so that it was winged and beautiful. Suddenly the glory-cloud waned, and I saw the multitude of the stars. Each star was the gate of a long, shining road. Many - a countless number - travelled these roads. Far off I saw white walls, built of the pale gold and ivory of sunrise. There again I saw three Spirits, standing and waiting. So these, I thought, were not the walls of Heaven, but the Divine Forges. That was my dream. When I awaked, the curlews were crying under the stars. When I reached the shadowy glebe, behind the manse by the sea, I saw the preacher walking there by himself, and doubtless praying. I told him that I had seen the Divine Forges, and twice; and in crude, childish words told how I had seen them.

MORRIS SOCIETY AT THE MLA 1995
    MLA ALLIED ORGANIZATION STATUS RENEWED
In an ongoing process, the Modern Language Association regularly assesses the activities of affiliated groups to judge whether their connection to the organization should be continued. This year it was our turn, and we are pleased to report that on 24 May Maribeth T. Kraus, Director of MLA Convention Programs wrote to inform us that, after a review in accordance with the new policies approved by the Delegate Assembly in December 1989, the William Morris Society allied organization status has been renewed for the next seven years. As part of the review procedure we submitted a 12-page report, in effect a history of the Society since becoming an allied organization in 1984, with comments on our past and our future. It's not the most exciting reading, but it does point out (if we may be allowed to toot our own horn at bit) a successful and growing record of publications and scholarly and social activities. Copies of this document are available upon request.
    THE CENTENARY EXHIBITION
We are making solid progress with our plans to mark the centenary of Morris's death in 1996. On 2 April the "ad hoc'' committee met at the Grolier Club to discuss various ideas. Mark Samuels Lasner, Carole Silver, Florence Boos, Frank Sharp, Pamela Bracken Wiens, Douglas Harris, Danielle Carrerra, Gary Aho, Joseph and Barbara Dunlop, Herbert Robinson, and Hartley Spatt attended. A month later Mark Samuels Lasner met with representatives of the Morgan Library and we are in contact with other institutions which plan exhibitions of their own including the Bridwell Library at Southern Methodist University and the Humanities Research Center, University of Texas at Austin. Various members are now researching the holdings of libraries and museums. A further metingto which all interested are invitedwill be held in September.
