Ryegate Cemetery and Ryegate Catholic Cemetery The original list was provided by long-time Ryegate resident, Millie Schanz it originated as a school project one of her grandchildren was involved in. There are two cemeteries at Ryegate, the Ryegate Cemetery and the Catholic Cemetery. The students visited both to gather headstone information. Rather than split the original list into two cemetery lists, the same coding used for the school project was used here:
Ryegate Cemetery = P; Catholic Cemetery = C.
Millie Schanz and Fay Durham Hoffman have also provided additional information after the school project ended.
If you have photos you would like to have linked to this site, please contact me, I will be happy to scan them and return them to you.
If you use this list and find it useful, please email your thanks to Millie Schanz as she got me started on the project. This list is incomplete, please check back for updates. Please email corrections, additions or

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it.
J. D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
Margaret Sidney: The Five Little Peppers and Their Creator Remember Phronsie Pepper and the little brown house in Badgerton? Both were the fictional creations of Harriett Mulford Stone Lothrop, who wrote about the beloved Pepper family under the pseudonym Margaret Sidney.
Born June 22, 1844 in New Haven, Connecticut, Harriett Stone was the daughter of architect Sidney Mason Stone. In 1878 she began sending short stories to Wide Awake , a children's magazine published by Daniel Lothrop. • The five little Peppers are an adorable family of children growing up in a small town and cared for the their widowed mother. She is so poor that the pittance earned by her as the town seamstress fails to support or even sustain the family. The children are happy despite privation and the smallest pleasures cause delight and merriment in the little house. Everything happens to this brood while mother is away sewing, and no matter how dangerous the situation, they come out of it safe and smiling.
