She remained in London until 1927, when she returned to Australia to live in Sydney. In 1931-1932 she visited U.S.A. and England. Her publications include six novels issued under the pseudonym Brent of Bin Bin and one under the pseudonym Ogniblat and Mrs. Ogniblat l'Artsau . From 1927-c.1945, Mary Fullerton, and in the mid 1930's, Jean Hamilton, acted as her agents in England, mainly in the publication of the Brent series, while Miles Franklin in turn acted as Mary Fullerton's Australian agent.

Sir Henry Parkes
see the banknote here Sometimes dubbed the "Father of Federation", Henry Parkes was New South Wales Premier five times between 1872 and 1891. A consummate politician who became convinced a bunch of colonies did not make a nation, Parkes convened the Federation Conference in Melbourne, the prelude to the 1891 National Australasian Convention where delegates agreed to a first draft Bill of the Constitution. Coining the name "Commonwealth" for the proposed merger of six squabbling colonial governments. Parkes died never knowing whether his vision for national unity, identity and governance would actually work out. It did as of January 1, 1901. Scottish-born Catherine Helen Spence was in the vanguard of the struggle to improve the lot of women in Australian society. In a crowded life as a journalist, social reformer and novelist, Spence was a leading light in public affairs before the dawn of the 20th century in Australia. Her untiring feminist and civil rights stirrings helped create a climate in which an all-male Parliament eventually legisiated to extend voting rights to South Australian women in 1894 - something other states took years to emulate.

Arabanoo was a member of a northern harbour clan. He was captured at Manly on 31 December 1788 by order of Governor Phillip. Phillip wanted to use Arabanoo as an intermediary to improve relations between the Aboriginal people and the colonists, and as a source of information. Arabanoo was taken across the harbour to Sydney Cove to the Cadigal clan lands of the Eora. Here he was kept in Phillip's house. Phillip recorded that he learnt much about Aboriginal customs and language from Arabanoo. When a severe smallpox epidemic swept the Aboriginal community, Arabanoo helped to care for those brought into Sydney. After catching the disease himself, Arabanoo died on or about 18 May 1789.

There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!
