(Undated, appears to be approximately 1909) PREFACE In presenting this history to the members of the McCurdy race, I do so with the firm belief that every detail given herein is perfectly true, which covers a period of more than 500 years. This has been the result of over ten years investigation by various family members of the McCurdy family, and brings to light many branches of the family, that otherwise could never have been discovered.
Those who have been engaged in making these investigations were persons of honor, intelligent and trustworthy, and their names are given elsewhere in this work.
Beyond a few unavoidable omissions, this work is complete, as regard the descendants of Pethric and his wife, Margaret (Stewart) McCurdy, to whom this work is dedicated.

Unknown Romance Novelists
This is part of the A Celebration of Women Writers , but I have few clues about these women. They are the authors of novels I have from 1850s-1940s, or were taken from lists in old novels or catalogs. The Romance and Mystery writers of today are their literary grand-daughters. One of them is the great-grandmother of a friend - after her husband died, his family refused to help her, so she supported and educated her six children by writing. If you have any information about authors, please let me know : titles, birth or death dates, biographical information. If you have books by authors I haven't listed, I would welcome that too. Eventually the novels will be analysed for what they reflect about the women who wrote and read them, but for now I'm just collecting them. Also see:

MEDICINE - THE NOBLE PROFESSION
by Paul Lucey (Spring 2000 edition) This article is a tribute to Lowell graduates who chose careers in the medical profession. We honor Lowell's first doctor, a graduate of the Pioneer Class of 1859 and a surgeon in the Union Army. We also salute our Nobel Laureate in Medicine, Class of 1892. Sadly, we honor the memory of Dr. Kim Fang '69, who gave his life last January defending his home and family. Among our 800+ honorees are some remarkable stories: Woman doctor, Editor of The Lowell, Stanford/Northwestern, Pediatrician, Medical Director, while raising 5 children; tennis star, Stanford, Internal Medicine/Psychiatry, Clinical Professor, organized medical programs in Third World and Eastern European countries; the Pediatrician who delivers her classmates' babies; and the eminent ophthalmologist whose twin sons were AAA All-City, 1st Team, football halfbacks. No "ology" is safe from our specialists: Rheumatology, Gynecology, Neuroradiology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Anesthesiology, Oncology, Psychology, Pathology, Ophthalmology, Nephrology, Neurology, Otolaryngology, Neonatology, Epidemiology, Herbology, Psychobiology, Microbiology, and a few we may have missed. Nor do they neglect the good old-fashioned specialties like Surgery, Internal Medicine, Public Health, Pediatrics, Veterinary Medicine, Psychiatry, Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Acapuncture, OB/GYN, Nurse Practitioner, Operating Room Nurse, Pediatric Nurse, Clinical Nurse, and others that may have escaped our notice.
