It's all fun and games until someone loses a Spleen. Parts Unknown is a game of buying, selling, pricegouging and profiteering in a tiny Victorian town gone crazy. Old Man Frankenstein made quite a splash with that little monster of his, and now everybody and his half-brother wants to be the next guy to play God. Everyone, that is, but you.

Letter From An Unknown Woman
Director
Max Ophuls
Stars Joan Fontaine Louis Jourdan
Certificate U
Running time 86 minutes
Made USA 1948
Reviewed by Nic O
This is a classic three-tissue melodrama with Joan Fontaine and Luis Jourdan set, around 1900 in a very beautifully staged Vienna. As a girl Lisa (Fontaine) develops a serious crush on her new neighbour, concert pianist Stefan, who barely notices her gradual progression into constant but loving stalking. For years she dutifully watches his comings and goings... and those of his many female companions. She is utterly enchanted by his music and well-practiced charm, and is devastated when she has to move away with her mother. Rejecting several offers Lisa remains faithful to her unknowing love, returning to Vienna so she can resume her silent pursuit. Joan Fontaine is wonderfully understated in her portrayal of the innocent and loving obsessive (Fatal Attraction this is not), and manages not to grate the nerves despite remaining painfully worthy throughout. Jourdan does his standard charming man about town turn (given the time and setting you can't help but think of Gigi) who remains surprised and moved by Fontaine each time he believes he is just meeting her a new. Despite his caddish behaviour and a formulaic whiff to his seduction techniques (he has longer standing relationships with the staff at his favourite restaurants than with any of his dinner dates) he remains a scatty, boyish character. You can't help but feel sorry at the easy, but lonely life he has doomed himself to lead.

Unknown Composers
"Unknown" isn't the best choice of word; obviously some people know about these composers, enough to have produced the records, cds, and radio broadcasts where I heard their music. Still, I think it's a useful term for what I'm trying to describe: classical music that for whatever reason isn't often heard, but deserves to be. IMHO, of course. Or IYHO, if you'd care to share your own nominees. Just send me email and I'll help you set up your own section of this page! Jimmosk's list of unfairly unknown composers, with .WAV sound clips.

With sections such as an "A to Z Space Encyclopedia" and with great links out to associated subjects, the coverage of space exploration and the planets is excellent. Comets, pulsars, and other space phenomena are featured. Best of all, the graphics and animations are solidly appealing and the entire site is well-organized. Review of the film by Mongoose.
http://www.haro-online.com/movies/code_unknown.html
Code Unknown (Code Inconnu) The subtitle for Code Unknown is Incomplete Tales of Several Journeys , which unwittingly perfectly summarizes the film itself. Michael Haneke's ( The Castle Funny Games ) intent was to demonstrate how complex life is, and how everything certain things affect other things. Instead, the movie comes across as obtuse, glancing into the lives of various people without anything meaningful coming out of it. There are five main stories, and none has any real resolution, some of them have no real point. It seems like Haneke is trying to tell the audience something, but it's not clear to anybody what this message is. With no discernible plot, the nearly two-hour running time seems even longer. Anne (Juliette Binoche, The Widow of St. Pierre Chocolat ) is an aspiring actress. Her boyfriend Georges (Thierry Neuvic, Les Insoumis is a news photographer who is working in Kosovo. Because of his job, the two cannot spend as much time together as they want, which is causing some strife in their relationship. Georges' brother Jean (Alexandre Hamidi, The Nest ) wants to strike it out on his own. His father works on a farm and wants Jean to take over the business, but Jean wants something different. Anne, Georges, and Jean are the white French characters in

So here's the story....Once upon a time, (july 29th, 2001) a paranormal site was designed as a hobby and accumulated at least 30 pages of information on clairvoyance, esp, auras, encounters with the unknown, etc. Then one day the hobby got in the way. It became a matter of just getting hits and keeping links working. I never updated the site, and all seemed lost. All winter long I searched for another type of site to make... a fansite, maybe? Perhaps I could come up with something great... if only I knew what. So while I was going through my mp3 list...I stumbled upon the old folder titled "copy of paranormal site archive" (yeah, i bet you have one of those, too). Anyway, I looked through it and was messing with the colors of another page (for a pop punk band) and thought the page might need a facelift. To make a long story short, I realized this place looked better in lightcyan than dark red. who knew? the goal: to create a totally impartial paranormal site devoid of extravagant/unnecessary decorations (ie. blood, classical horror music, stereotypical halloween grandeur and such) and

Rummie's ducks and dodges
You'll note, if you're careful, a certain ambiguity in what Donald Rumsfeld actually said this past weekend ( quoted in the New York Times ) about troop deployments in Iraq: This has been planned, that was what his plan was. I haven't signed a new deployment order in days. These are deployments that were, people were alerted months ago, they brought on active duty, they were trained, they have been loading their ships, they've been sending the ships over there, they've been loading themselves into airplanes and flying over there, and it's a steady stream of people. But the truth comes out , somewhat less ambiguously, in the Washington Post today: The Pentagon has reacted to unexpectedly stiff Iraqi resistance by boosting U.S. forces in Iraq ahead of their scheduled deployment dates, a defense official said. Thanks, Rummie, you're a big help. April 1, 2003, 1:33 PM ET. TB/Comments? (1)
The fog of politics
"The only way out now is back, and to hope for some kind of a miracle." That's what Seymour Hersh reports (in the New Yorker , of course) a former intelligence officer told him about the situation coalition forces now face in Iraq, given his assessment of the amount of troops and materiel now on the ground.

THE UNKNOWN KUBRICK
by John Morgan On viewing any of director Stanley Kubrick's masterpieces, it becomes immediately apparent that extreme care and precision is practiced for each and every frame of his films. This is one of many elements that make Kubrick unique as a director. Many commentators have speculated that this is probably the result of the origins of Kubrick's career: namely, his apprenticeship as a still photographer. Strangely, while this fact is widely known and acknowledged, to my knowledge not a single commentator has ever gone back and blown the dust off of Kubrick's photographic work. This page is an attempt to rectify this situation. On his thirteenth birthday, Kubrick has told us, his father presented him with his first camera. Kubrick immediately took to photography, and it soon became one of his favorite hobbies. It was while he was still in high school, at age 16, that Kubrick happened to snap a photo of a newsstand owner on the morning following FDR's death. He soon sold the photograph to Look
