AMERICA by: Henry van Dyke (1852-1933)
    LOVE thine inland seas,
    Thy groves of giant trees,
    Thy rolling plains;
    Thy rivers' mighty sweep,
    Thy mystic canyons deep,
    Thy mountains wild and steep,
    All thy domains;
    Thy silver Eastern strands,
    Thy Golden Gate that stands
    Wide to the West;
    Thy flowery Southland fair,
    Thy sweet and crystal air,
    O land beyond compare,
    Thee I love best!

A HOME SONG by: Henry van Dyke (1852-1933)
    READ within a poet's book
    A word that starred the page:
    "Stone walls do not a prison make,
    Nor iron bars a cage!"
    Yes, that is true; and something more
    You'll find, where'er you roam,
    That marble floors and gilded walls
    Can never make a home.
    But every house where Love abides,
    And Friendship is a guest,
    Is surely home, and home-sweet-home:
    For there the heart can rest.

And yet there is a hatred that purifies the heart: The anger of the better against the baser part, Against the false and wicked, against the tyrant's sword, Against the enemies of love, and all that hate the Lord. O cleansing indignation, O flame of righteous wrath, Give me a soul to feel thee and follow in thy path! Save me from selfish virtue, arm me for fearless fight, And give me strength to carry on, a soldier of the Right! A Presbyterian Minister, Henry Van Dyke is perhaps best known for

A LITTLE fir grew in the midst of the wood Contented and happy, as young trees should. His body was straight and his boughs were clean; And summer and winter the bountiful sheen Of his needles bedecked him, from top to root, In a beautiful, all-the-year, evergreen suit. But a trouble came into his heart one day, When he saw that the other trees were gay In the wonderful raiment that summer weaves Of manifold shapes and kinds of leaves: He looked at his needles so stiff and small, And thought that his dress was the poorest of all.

America For Me
A Mile With Me Work Hymn Of Joy ... Shelley
America For Me
'Tis fineto see the Old World, and travel up and down
Among the famous palaces and cities of renown,
To admire the crumbly castles and the statues of the kings,
But now I think I've had enough of antiquated things. So it's home again, and home again, America for me!
My heart is turning home again, and there I long to be
In the land of youth and freedom beyond the ocean bars,
Where the air is full of sunlight and the flag is full of stars. Oh, London is a man's town, there's power in the air;
