This track has been done by simply mapping each agent to a different sound in some sound-generating software/hardware. I have not edited in this rhythmical performance. agentbeat 002 This one has been through more after-work... I.e. I have added several patterns and done some arrangements after generating the basic "seed"-midi-file from AGENTBEATS. On this track I experiment with using the same "seed" for generating weird monophonic synth-sounds, and it turns out to be: Very Succesful.

WHAT ARE COMPLEX ADAPTIVE SYSTEMS?
Many natural systems (e.g., brains, immune systems, ecologies, societies) and increasingly, many artificial systems (parallel and distributed computing systems, artificial intelligence systems, artificial neural networks, evolutionary programs) are characterized by apparently complex behaviors that emerge as a result of often nonlinear spatio-temporal interactions among a large number of component systems at different levels of organization. Consequently, researchers in a number of disparate areas including computer science, artificial intelligence, neural networks, cognitive science, computational economics, mathematics, optimization, complexity theory, control systems, biology, neuroscience, psychology, engineering, etc. have have begun to address, through a combination of basic as well as applied, theoretical as well as experimental research, analysis and synthesis of such systems.

An important feature of e-den is that users may link their own local digital world with similar worlds over the internet and thereby participate in the creation of a large, autonomous digital ecosystem with a multilevel food-chain. Users may even design and name their own species and then attempt to take over the e-den master grid. This site is intended as a reference for the e-den program and contains far more information than is needed to run the program. Version 2.0 of CAV is available. It now implements some 1D cellular automata and can be used to test Wolfram's and Langton's classifications. This site is devoted to Artificial Life. Its objective is to participate in the popularization of this new science. As a matter of fact, the general public is not really aware of those researches even though they could have a real daily importance in the coming decades. Former academic (but in quite a different field), I will try to ensure rigorous presentations while limiting technical demonstrations. Address The Research Group on Artificial Life is an internationally recognized laboratory that carried out pioneering research in the area of artificial life and evolutionary robotics. Our main research activity involve the study of artificial organisms that are embodied (i.e. that are controlled by an artificial neural network but that also have a body), situated (i.e. that interact with an external environment) and that evolve (i.e. that are part of a population that is subjected to an evolutionary process based on selective reproduction). By using this methodology we investigated and we are investigating different research issues such as: the synthesis of autonomous and adaptive machines; the evolution of modularity, the synthesis of behaviors that emerge from the interaction between different components (e.g. the organism and the environment or the brain and the body or different individuals of the population) or from the interaction between different processes (e.g. evolution, development and learning).

The relatively new field of Artificial Life attempts to study and understand biological life by synthesizing artificial life forms. To paraphrase Chris Langton , the founder of the field, the goal of Artificial Life is to "model life as it could be so as to understand life as we know it". Artificial Life is a very broad discipline which spans such diverse topics as artificial evolution, artificial ecosystems, artificial morphogenesis, molecular evolution and many more. [6] offers a nice overview of the different research questions studied by the discipline. Artificial Life shares with Artificial Intelligence its interest in synthesizing adaptive autonomous agents. Autonomous agents are computational systems that inhabit some complex, dynamic environment, sense and act autonomously in this environment, and by doing so realize a set of goals or tasks that they are designed for. The goal of building an autonomous agent is as old as the field of Artificial Intelligence itself. The Artificial Life community has initiated a radically different approach towards this goal which focuses on fast, reactive behavior, rather than knowledge and reasoning, as well as adaptation and learning. Its approach is largely inspired by Biology, and more specifically the field of Ethology, which attempts to understand the mechanisms which animals use to demonstrate adaptive and successful behavior.
