Emulation, in short, is the act of having your 'computer' to pretend it's another operating system. Emulating the operating system allows you to run programs on your system which normally would not be possible, which opens up huge possibilities as you can imagine. Emulators exist for everything from gaming consoles to Palm Pilots. The TB303 (Transistor Bass) was introduced in the early 1982's together with the TR606 Drumatix (Transistor Rythm) by Roland. It was invented by Tadao Kikumoto. At that time the 303 was not an expensive piece, only about £215. The two small plastic-pieces were intended to emulate a real bass player and a real drummer. [ Read more

http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0004/28.emulator.shtml
More on Mac emulators for the PC
by Dennis Sellers, dsellers@maccentral.com
April 28, 2000, 7:00 am ET Wednesday's article, " Virtual Mac for the PC ," told of some emulators that let Mac software run on Wintel systems. One product mentioned was Basilisk II. Darek Mihocka of Emulators Inc. says that while Basilisk is a relative newcomer to the Mac emulation arena, the product has been running Mac software on the PC since 1993. It ran first in DOS version, but, since 1995, has been in the form of a Windows version. The current incarnation of the product, which is currently called SoftMac 2000, was actually released in the summer of 1997 around the time of Apple's release of Mac OS 8 and offers fast System 7 and Mac OS 8 emulation on Windows 9x, NT, and 2000, Mihocka says. "There are also other Mac emulators on the web, such as vMac (a Mac Plus emulator) which similarly began about two or three years ago," he adds. "Regarding the names of the products, you mention [in Wednesday's article] that products are available from Fusion and from Gemulator. That is incorrect. Those are the names of the products, Fusion is actually available from a company called Microcode Solutions, and our Gemulator and SoftMac products are available from us, Emulators Inc." Regarding price, while Basilisk is technically a "free" product available over the Internet, Emulators Inc. has been releasing free versions of Gemulator since 1992, and currently offer free versions of SoftMac on their Web site. At last week's Comdex Chicago, the company offered the SoftMac 2000 product on CD-ROM bundled with a shrink wrapped Mac OS 8.1 for $99.

Macintosh Emulation Station
Welcome to my Macintosh emulation site.
Note: Optimized for IE 4+
After using a Mac for over 8 years, I've run across a lot of good Macintosh software. Only the best Mac software is on this site - it isn't pretty, but it has quantity and will be growing. All the software has been tested by me using the Mac emulators Fusion PC V2.0 and Basilisk II (which emulate the Mac OS on PC computers). Everything on my site is either shareware, freeware, or demos and all are completely legal. Almost all the software is fully functional and as with all software of this kind, you must pay the shareware fee to the author if you decide to keep it after the trial period has expired. Please consult the "read me" files for details. 8^) The description of most of the software is from the website of the company that develops the software. On the left-hand side of each table is a link to directly download the software. To the right is a description of the software and usually a link to the company who sells the software. Most of the software installers include details of how to register the product as well. Also on this site is the latest Mac emulation news, and tips on how to get up and started using the Macintosh emulators. If you need additional help getting started please visit my

Emulators
What you need to get back in the game Emulators allow your computer to act like the actual hardware of the emulated system, such as a gaming console like the Atari 2600, or a computer like the Apple IIe. Some emulators can also emulate the hardware of various classic arcade games. For more information on emulators, see the section entitled, "What's an emulator?" in the ClassicGaming Newbie Guide
Emulators require game binaries (ROMs or Disk Images) to function, much like a real gaming system requires a cartridge or Floppy disk before it can run a game. You can find ROMs or Disk Images for many systems in our Game Vault Emulators can be difficult to get up and running, especially for the first time. After you have downloaded and unzipped an emulator, it is strongly recommended that you carefully read any documentation that comes with it (often in a file named "readme"). We have also prepared "Quick-start Guides" for some popular emulators. These can be found in our Help! section

Situation Report Posted by Tempest of Shadows on December 12, 2002 at 1:04 PM EST Since it's been a while, I thought an update on the current status would be good. Clearly, things didn't get back to normal. After that and a certain other deciding factor became obvious, I began looking into other solutions. It seems like none of those are going to work out for various reasons, though, so I'm working on getting some of the inactive parts of the site working again. I'm going to try to use a watered down portion of the forum software to get the account management section working again (if that doesn't work out, the site will probably be shut down permanently). The forums themselves aren't coming back, and neither is the 'search the web' section. I've deleted them (and the account management section for the time being) from the server entirely. The next time I update, the Codes section will also be removed since it never really got off the ground (so, if you want anything from that section, get it now).
