I have been for about three years now. I decided, after a recent conflict with my boyfriend Josh over this, to create this web page and hopefully completely stop this anorexic madness...hence the name of this page. Josh, may I mention, is such a great guy. He's always been there and I love him so much, and he said that it hurts him when I hurt myself, so in an effort to not force him to break up with me, I am doing my best to get myself back on the right track, and I am hoping that it will work. In 7th and 8th grade, I looked in the mirror, and I hated what I saw. A fat, ugly, disgusting piece of white trash. Don't argue with that if you didn't know me then. I was severely overweight for my age. Though it pains me to say this, I was 175 pounds when I was 13. And I hated that so much. So, after dozens of sleepless nights and crying and feeling sorry for myself, I decided I was going to do something about that. I didn't want to feel like that forever. Now, as I look back, maybe what I decided to do wasn't the bestest of choices, but it did seem to help me as much as many of you don't think it did. I mean, in just a few months I lost 30 pounds, and I guess it was after then that I though, "Ya know, this is seemingly working. Maybe I should continue." But now, I think I just got some sense knocked into me, and I am making a sincere effort to do whatever I possibly can to end this. But it will take time...

Grundlagen und Ursachen In westlichen Gesellschaften hat sich das Schönheitsideal seit Anfang der 60er Jahre immer mehr in Richtung eines sehr schlanken Körpers entwickelt. Paradoxerweise ist es auf der anderen Seite durch relativen Wohlstand und ein Nahrungsüberangebot gleichzeitig zu einem Anstieg des Durchschnittsgewichts gekommen. Übergewicht wird insbesondere bei Frauen gesellschaftlich sehr negativ bewertet. Übergewichtige Männer werden als stattlich bezeichnet, Frauen hingegen als fett. Durch Werbung und Filme erhält man den Eindruck, dass nur schlanke Frauen erfolgreich und beliebt sind, dicke Frauen sind entweder graue Mäuse oder "Ulknudeln". Gerade junge Frauen, die während der Pubertät körperliche Veränderungen durchlaufen und erst ein Gefühl für ihren "neuen" Körper entwickeln müssen, können durch dieses Schlankheitsideal stark verunsichert werden.

Books Anorexia Nervosa The most common element surrounding ALL Eating Disorders is the inherent presence of a low self esteem Anorexia Nervosa It is not easy to understand a person suffering Anorexia. People living with the illness often have a low self-esteem and a tremendous need to control their surroundings and emotions. Quite often the Eating Disorder is a unique reaction to an array of external and internal conflicts, such as stress, anxiety, and unhappiness. Anorexia is a negative way to cope with these emotions. "...starvation fills a void inside when it's approval from you I crave. The desire for food is gone and you are there again... yelling... so negative. Times like this filled with the pounding urge to run far away and disappear..." The person suffering with Anorexia may be abnormally sensitive about being perceived as fat, or have a massive fear of becoming fat though not all people living with Anorexia have this fear. They may be afraid of losing control over the amount of food they eat, accompanied by the desire to control their emotions and reactions to their emotions. With a low self-esteem and need for acceptance they will turn to obsessive dieting and starvation as a way to control not only their weight, but their feelings and actions regarding the emotions attached. Some also feel that they do not deserve pleasure out of life, and will deprive themselves of situations offering pleasure (including eating).

Obesity. Is it an eating disorder? Like most things, obesity is a complex phenomenon about which it is dangerous to generalize. What is true for one person is not necessarily true for the next. Nevertheless, we shall try to make sense out of conflicting theories and give answers to people who struggle to maintain self-esteem in a world that seems to be obsessed with youth, thinness, and the perfect body whatever that may be. What is obesity? A person with anorexia nervosa may define obesity as a weight gain of five pounds, from 89 to 94. A grandmother past menopause may call herself obese because she carries 165 pounds on her large-boned, muscular body. A modeling agency may talk about obesity when one of the women on the payroll puts 135 pounds on her 5'10" body. None of these women is clinically obese. The anorexic and the model are underweight. Men are split in their personal definitions of obesity. Many are just as concerned about overweight as women are, while others, frankly rotund, believe they are just fine, perfectly healthy, and universally attractive to potential romantic partners. Physicians consider a person to obese if s/he weighs more than 20% above expected weight for age, height, and body build. Morbid or malignant obesity is weight in excess of 100 pounds above that expected for age, height, and build.
