What is it, Who has it and
Why should I care?
Asperger Syndrome is a autism spectrum disorder which is very hard to diagnose. The symptoms are many and varied. It's a neurobiological disorder that affects the brain and the people who have it seem very "normal" a good share of the time. A rough guesstimate is that 1 in every 500 people in the US have this dysfunction which can include everything from language disabilities to sensory problems and physical awkwardness. These people are very intelligent, extremely structured and have no social awareness — they are often very literal - tell my son he needs something the way he needs "a hole in the head" and he literally will interpret it as he doesn't need any holes in his head so he doesn't want that; what he's picturing is you trying to actually put a literal hole in his head - this can cause alarm bells to ring all over the place for the child and what seemed a moment of small consequence could get out of hand in a big hurry. Why you should care at all is harder to define - but if you are in any sort of public service from teaching to customer service at Walmart - it may help you understand some of the people you may meet and/or have to work with.

Aspergers syndrome and discrimination in Swedish icehockey
Aspen LSS Bad treatment in the Swedish Labour Market Vinnys world ... Version in Swedish This article describes two approaches to handling the situation faced by a slightly handicapped young boy on a Swedish ice-hockey team. Aspergers syndrome (sometimes called high Functioning Autism) is a form of illness that occurs among people who are normally gifted, and sometimes even very gifted in a narrow area. About 0.5% of all boys have Aspergers syndrome. The symptoms may vary, but problems in social interaction, difficulty in accepting change, outbursts of rage, and peculiar talk and fantasies are some of the symptoms that can be mentioned. There is no specific treatment or cure for Aspergers disorder. Among interventions the following can be mentioned: individual psychotherapy to help the individual to process the feelings aroused by being socially handicapped parent education and training behavioral modification social skills training educational intervention My son (born in 1985), who lives at home with us, his parents, in a suburb (Täby) north-east of Stockholm, has this handicap. In his special case, the illness is characterised by somewhat odd behaviour and difficulties in concentration. The ability to speak came late to him. On the other hand, he feels a lot of empathy, which is often said to be lacking in people who are autistic. Earlier, he had outbursts of rage and difficulty in sleeping, but he has become a lot more calm nowadays. It has been determined that he has a shortage of the hormone thyroxin. (Thyroxin is produced by the thyroid gland, which influences growth and development.) However, apart from this, he is quite healthy.

The trains pictured on the site symbolize the Autism and Asperger community as moving forward, and going places "Ability is what you are capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it." We at Autistichat are working to build our community to be of assistance to a wide group of people with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, and pervasive developmental disorders (PDDs). We achieve this through the use of an online chat room that is dedicated to those who have an interest in Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, and other pervasive developmental disabilities. Even if you don't have an Autism-related disorder, or Asperger's Syndrome, stop by for a visit anyway. Most anybody with an interest on the spectrum is welcome. There are two methods with which you may access the channel. One is through an Internet Relay Chat client, and the other is through our Java chat client. The Java client may not work with all browsers, so it is best to download an IRC program. Read more about this on the Java Chat page.
