ARU Homepage
Introduction There is an increasing amount of research being conducted into the possible link between autism and vaccination. Along with many other groups throughout the world, the Autism Research Unit is committed to examining the nature of this association through sc ientific research. Due to the nature of our work conducted at the Unit and the strong contact established with parents of people with autism, we at the Unit, have become increasingly aware of the elevated incidence of parents claiming that their child's autism was the result of, or compounded by, vaccination. Many times each week, we are contacted by parents who talk about the effect they saw when their child was vaccinated, often describing harrowing scenes of extremely rapid regression, from perfectly ordinary children to children who exhibit very severe behavioural and physiological problems. Of course, clinicians and parents alike readily accept that by the very definition of autism and related pervasive developmental disorders, a period of regression very often accompanies the onset of autism, and as such one cannot discount the possibility that the timing of vaccinations with autism onset is merely one of coincidence rather than cause. This cannot however be assumed when adequate research has not been properly conducted.

The Autism Depot
This page is meant to be a resource for parents of autistic children. This page should grow, as we become more experienced handling Tara 's problems. I've written short reviews of various books that I've read since Tara's diagnosis. Beyond that you will find a short listing of key resources . A note about these resources. I don't expect this list to grow and please don't ask me to link to your site. I will take suggestions on what new books to read. This site was reviewed by Mental Health Net giving it a single star out of a possible 4. The best rating that they've given in their Autism section is 3 stars. I guess this means that either I have lots of room for improvement or the site isn't what they expected.

Autism This page was selected by as one of their 50 key resources in the topic of Autism. The list of 50 is excellent; I encourage you to check it out.
Definition per ASA
Autism is a developmental disability that appears during the first three years. The result of a neurological disorder affects functioning of the brain, autism and its associated behaviors occur in approximately 15 of every 10,000 individuals.
Autism is four times more prevalent in boys than girls and knows no racial, ethnic or social boundaries. Family income, lifestyle or educational levels do not affect the chance of occurrence.

Holistic treatment of hearing distortions in adults and children including auditory integration training (AIT) and otoacoustic emissions testing.
http://www.aitresources.com
We at Autism/A.D.D. Resources, Inc. have found that the Berard method of Auditory Integration Training, in conjunction with good holistic follow-up and consistent behavior management and expectations, has been a successful approach with children with language de-coding difficulties and hearing sensitivities. It takes collaborative teamwork among educational delivery systems, therapies and family to provide optimum opportunities in order to implement changes in attention span and behaviors. We offer consultation and trainings in auditory integration. Auditory Integration Training (AIT) is a non-invasive, educational and integrative strategy which utilizes auditory input to affect more normalized brain responses to environmental stimulus. AIT is the intervention of choice for non-pharmacological, non-invasive treatments that reduce auditory sensitivities and vestibular disturbances. Observations of clients after AIT include:
  • Improved language discrimination, comprehension, processing

Your resource for Thimerosal claims Get a free case assesment! Parker and Waichman has filed a Class Action Lawsuit against manufacturers of vaccines containing Thimerosal. Visit www.vaccineclassaction.com for more information. It is estimated that 17 percent of US children under the age of 18 are suffering from learning and/or behavioral disabilities. California's Department of Developmental Services reported a 20 percent increase over the previous year for diagnoses of level-one autism. Level-one autism is the number one disability in the state of California, accounting for 35 percent of all new cases. Of the 16,802 persons with level-one autism in the California system, two-thirds of them are between the ages of birth and 13. Many medical professionals and scientists are blaming thimerosal containing vaccines for this increased rise in Autism and learning disabilities. According to leading medical researchers no amount of thimerosal is a safe. Thimerosal is more toxic than mercury and that giving a ten-pound infant a single vaccine in a day is the equivalent of giving a 100 pound adult 40 vaccines in a day. The FDA and EPA called for the removal of mercury in infant vaccines beginning in 1999. At that time, vaccine manufacturers agreed to have thimerosal-free vaccines available at the beginning of 2001 and later offered voluntary exchange for all remaining thimerosal vaccines still on the shelf.
