This booklet was developed with the help of a small group of parents in the Children's Services programme. Many thanks are extended to Sue Moscardini, Debra Eldridge and Karon Hayes, who inspired the making of this booklet and made considerable contributions to its content. Thanks also to Rebecca Coleman Carman, who compiled and developed the initial drafts of the booklet. HOW CAN I HELP? When a child is diagnosed with cerebral palsy, the parents face many new emotional and physical demands. In the initial years they have to learn to cope with the special needs of their child. Parents also have special needs themselves which require special understanding and support from family and friends.

    76. Cincinnati Hyperbarics
provides hyperbaric oxygen therapy as well as orthodox and alternative approaches to enhance healing for conditions including stroke, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis.
    http://www.cincinnatihyperbarics.com

    Welcome to Cincinnati Hyperbarics.
We'd like to tell you a little bit about us, our center and services, and also provide you with some information about our hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Cincinnati Hyperbarics was founded by Dr. Ted Cole . Dr. Cole has been in practice for over 12 years, and is at the forefront of innovative and effective medical treatments. Dr. Cole has used alternative medicine since the opening of his office, and has a unique blend of both orthodox and alternative approaches. After a great deal of research and study, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been added as an extension to the already large number of therapies available to his patients. Dr. Cole knows that hyperbaric oxygen is best used as a part of an overall approach to one's health care, and should not be viewed as a "miracle cure" for every condition. Cincinnati Hyperbarics is owned and operated by Dr. Cole as a freestanding center. Unlike many other facilities, it is not operated by technicians or a "medical director" that is rarely, if ever, actually on the premises of the hyperbaric facility. At Cincinnati Hyperbarics, Dr. Cole evaluates every patient. He designs and supervises every patient's course of therapy. He monitors every patient's progress, and is able to provide other treatments to accelerate and enhance each person's recovery. By using his vast experience and knowledge to combine hyperbaric oxygen with other therapies, he is able to ensure that you get the type of care that is best for you and your particular condition.

"At the end, what really matters - and is a good measure of a past life - is who you loved and who loved you. The circle of love is everything." From a speech by Healy, M.D. (Click on this image to hear a personal message.) I've corresponded with many wonderful people from all over the world and the two most frequent topics people write about are penpals and networking. All of us need someone we can talk with; someone who really understands what we feel and why, the problems we face, and the importance of just being able to have someone listen. It's also important to have a broad base of knowledge and a good source of practical solutions to common problems, particularly if you're disabled or if you're the parent of a disabled person. So, after many, many requests here's an opportunity to get in touch with others who want to share themselves and their experience. This is a rather informal page and the information listed for the people below is not in any particular format; nor is it intended to be as complete as some might want. But then, isn't mutual exploration part of the fun of corresponding? A couple of things to keep in mine, though. First, most of the people listed either have CP or are parents of a child with CP. Also, those who have indicated a need for more information on raising a disabled child or solving a particular problem are probably looking for more than simply writing back and forth. Please be considerate of that. If you want to write to someone listed simply send them an email. It might be a good idea to also let them know how you got their email address! If you would like to be listed on this page, whether you just want some penpals or are looking for some answers, simply

    Overview
Many researchers and support groups state that birth defects and genetic disorders, especially connective tissue disorders such as Marfan syndrome osteogenesis imperfecta and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome , can't possibly be cured through diet because they are inherited genetic disorders. This conclusion is invalid simply because many birth defects and inherited genetic disorders have been found to be improved, or even cured, through diet. The old school of thinking that a birth defect or inherited disorder had to be caused by a single gene is no longer widely held in medical circles. The breakthrough concept in research is that many birth defects and inherited disorders are influenced by both genes and environmental factors, especially nutrition. Genes may make people susceptible to certain defects and disorders, but they are often only a part of the picture.

The Cerebral Palsy Association of British Columbia (CPABC) is an independent, not-for-profit Association led by a Volunteer Board of Directors. The CPABC was founded in 1954 by a group of concerned parents who wanted the best possible opportunities for their children living with Cerebral Palsy (CP). We have evolved into a provincial Association that supports individuals, families, caregivers, professionals, students and other organizations whose lives are touched by Cerebral Palsy. Today, there are between 8000 - 12000 people across the province of British Columbia who live with Cerebral Palsy. Our funding comes from private donations from individuals and service organizations, membership fees, and private grants. We welcome opportunities to partner with organizations and businesses in order to increase awareness and support for those living with Cerebral Palsy. To Top
