treatments for compulsive gambling cases. We are here to help chronic gamblers resolve their betting and wagering problems.
We are not against gambling and we understand that most people can gamble for fun and entertainment, and never develop a gambling addiction.
Our concern is about the casualties of gambling: Estimates show that more than 1 million California adults, and an additional 100,000 California juveniles, are experiencing compulsive gambling problems. Those numbers are multiplied when you consider their loved ones who also suffer.
We are here to help: We promote public and industry education, cost-accessible gambling addiction treatments, and offer training and certification for compulsive gambling counselors. We support research and provide prevention education for problem and compulsive gambling. Through our experienced, compulsive gambling counselors, we offer the best gambling addiction treatment and support available. The lure of the big payday has drawn many a visitor to Las Vegas. But while the glitter and glamour can be enticing, it can also be a dangerous trap.

  • STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
  • The certification process for compulsive gambling counselors for the state of Mississippi is designed to certify individuals based on levels of competence and need. In so recognizing the plight of the compulsive gambler, the Mississippi Council has established a two tiered certification system to ensure that service providers are adequately trained throughout the state.

    Compulsive gambling a genetic disorder?
    September 5, 1996
Wed posted at: 4:35 a.m. EDT From Correspondent Lisa Price CHICAGO (CNN) A widely held theory that people may actually become addicted to gambling may now be more than speculation. New scientific research released Tuesday at a meeting in Chicago reveals that compulsive gambling may in fact be genetically founded. "Prior to today, we just go in and explain the signs, the symptoms, the progression," said Christopher Anderson of the Illinois Council on Problem and Compulsive Gambling. "This just underscores what we've been saying with sound, scientific, tangible evidence. In other words here's a snapshot of this illness." The research suggests compulsive gamblers share a gene that predisposes them to addictive behavior. "Environmental factors are important, psychological factors are important. It's a complex disorder. But genes also play a role and this is one of the genes," said Dr. David Comings of the City of Hope National Medical Center. The gene is called the D-2 receptor. In some people, it can be stimulated by alcohol, drugs, sex, food or lots of gambling.
