Nausea and Vomiting
Nausea and vomiting can occur in association with infectious and noninfectious GI disorders, pregnancy and motion sickness. They can also follow the administration of many drugs including cancer chemotherapy antibiotics , narcotic pain medications and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen. There is a vomiting center in the brain that receives signals from multiple sites and once stimulated causes the natural motility of the stomach to be reduced so that gastric reflux occurs. Vomiting results when the stomach relaxes, the passage from the stomach to the intestine constricts and the contractions of surrounding muscles causes expulsion of the gastric contents.
Several chemicals in the body are involved in the transmission of information passing into and out of the vomiting center. Drugs used to block these chemicals are used to treat nausea and vomiting. The chemicals being blocked are involved in many other bodily functions, so many drugs used to treat nausea and vomiting have other uses. For example, drugs categorized as major tranquilizers, antihistamines , antianxiety agents, and corticosteroids chemotherapy . Due to the ability of cause physical and psychological dependence and hallucinations, it is reserved for patients who have not responded to other forms of treatment.

Constipation is the passage of hard stools, that is painful to pass and associated with infrequent bowel movements. Occasionlly, bright red blood may be passed with hard stools. This blood comes from a slight tear in the rectal area from the hard stool.
  • Breast-fed babies rarely get constipated. They do commonly develop an infrequent stool pattern after 2 or 3 months of age. These older breast-fed babies may have one stool every 4 or 5 days, but they are soft and mushy and the babies do not seem uncomfortable. Newborns should pass their first meconium stool by 48 hours of age, if they do not, notify your physician. Once newborns who are a few days old are feeding well, they should be having 3 to 4 or more stools per day. If they are not, this may be a sign that they are not getting enough milk. Constipation is very common in infants starting on solids. Some toddlers who are toilet training may become constipated. They may then start to hold onto their stools and refuse to go to the bathroom and this will create further constipation problems. Severe, constant pain for more than 2 hours

http://www.nia.nih.gov/health/agepages/const.htm
Constipation Nearly everyone becomes constipated at one time or another. Usually, it is not serious. To avoid most constipation problems, it helps to know what causes it, how to prevent it, and how to treat it. Constipation is a symptom, not a disease. You may be constipated if you are having fewer bowel movements than usual, with a long or hard passing of stools. Older people are more likely than younger people to become constipated. Experts agree that older people often worry too much about having a bowel movement every day. There is no right number of daily or weekly bowel movements. Being regular is different for each person. For some people, it can mean bowel movements twice a day. For others, movements just twice a week are normal. Questions to Ask Some doctors suggest asking these questions to decide if you are constipated: Do you often have fewer than three bowel movements each week?

What is constipation?
  • a decrease in frequency of bowel movements, compared to a child's usual pattern (some physicians define constipation as fewer than three bowel movements per week). the passage of hard, dry bowel movements. bowel movements that are difficult or painful to push out.
What causes constipation?
Sometimes, there is no identifiable reason for constipation in children. However, some of the causes may include:
  • diet
Some children eat too much of foods that are high in fat and low in fiber (such as fast foods, "junk" foods, and soft drinks). Also, some children do not drink enough water and liquids.
  • lack of exercise
Children who stay inside, watch TV, and play video games do not get enough exercise. Exercise helps move digested food through the intestines.
  • emotional issues
    • Preschool and school-aged children are sometimes embarrassed to use public bathrooms and hold in their bowel movements, causing constipation.
    • Toddlers can be overwhelmed by toilet training, especially when a parent is more anxious for the child to be out of diapers than the child is.

Chronic Constipation Help
This webpage is a personal account of a succesfull, complete and permanet healing of a case
of chronic constipation. It contains detailed descriptions of my methods that I used to win
over this illness. I make it available to public, because I want to share this great
redeeming knowledge with all fellow sufferers.
A few lines about my case.
The basic rules for healing of constipation are:
Rule# 0:
Do not push. The stool should come out of you by itself. Push only minimaly.
Rule # 1:
Position. Do not sit on the toilet. Take off your shoes and squat on the seat. This is the natural position for elimination. The thighs press on the belly, the whole body adapts for the great relief. The sitting toilet, invented by Mr. Crapper from Seattle just about one hundred years ago is a silly idea. You may as well lay and eliminate. If you can not squat for extented periods, learn it slowly. If you find it impossible, you can sit on the toilet bowl and put a stool under your feet to raise your legs as high as you can. But this will help much less. People with means can have the "crapper" ripped out and install a "Turkish toilet". Most of the people in the world still use that. To this day, 20 years after the healing I can not excrete while sitting. I squat.
This is the basic rule.

The audiocassette can be played by itself, and used as often as desired. It's especially useful to replay it every few months as a "refresher" or reminder of important points. It has been found particularly helpful for those with vision problems or other reading difficulties. The guidebook contains the text of the audiocassette, and can be used independently of the tape. This is useful for people with hearing problems. It's also easier to look up information in a book than to replay a tape. Besides this, the booklet also contains tips for getting the best possible use from both tape and guidebook, including a guide for group use. It has "stopping points" that allow the listener to stop the tape and make notes to use later. It also contains a form for tracking your fiber and fluid intake, along with a guide to food sources of fiber. Individuals can choose to use the tape and book together, or either one separately. There is space for notes in the back, which can be taken on the next visit to the doctor or dietitian.

Describing the Problem
Rhonda has problems:
Rose has had a terrible time with constipation. She can go for a week or more without a BM and then when she passes it she tears and bleeds. We had one episode where her rectum was pushing out. The doctor said she needed to be "trained" to have a bowel movement and did not want me to give her a suppository or enema even if that meant she would go for a week. I was not going to do that. I hope the Serotonium works. I will know soon.

Constipation is Common in Toddlers
Q:
I have a 17-month old granddaughter who suffers from constipation constantly. Her mother has taken her to the doctor and been given the recommendation to cut back on the amount of milk she receives. I feel that she needs milk to help her grow and that there may be something more serious going on. What can be done to help her?
A: Constipation is a very common problem in young children and most often due to dietary issues. Constipation results when liquid is resorbed from the stool remaining in the intestine for too long. The stool then becomes hard, becoming more difficult and painful to expel leading to worsening constipation. Iron in infant formulas can also be a cause of constipation as can a diet deficient in fruits and vegetables. Adequate fluid intake is key. In children in this age group, small amounts of prune juice can be helpful as well as appropriate doses of milk of magnesia. Occasionally, a glycerin suppository will help. Once regularity is achieved, maintenance is important.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome
A Natural Approach
Irritable Bowel Syndrome affects the rate at which the contents of the bowel move and symptoms include abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, rectal discomfort, headaches, backaches, depression, fatigue, weight loss or weight gain etc. People diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome can have symptoms, which vary greatly. This in part can be accounted for by individual eating habits, lifestyle, food allergies or intolerance to dairy products.
Treatment
Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be treated effectively by a number of natural and alternative therapies. It is important that a doctor or other health professional diagnose IBS since other very serious conditions have similar symptoms. Several natural approaches to relieve Irritable Bowel Syndrome are: increased dietary fiber, elimination of food allergies and intolerances, the use of botanicals and the treatment of stress.
Fiber supplementation
Extra fiber will help normalize bowel movements.

Constipation is a symptom, not a disease. It is frequently caused by a disturbance of how the colon works. The normal functions of the colon are to:
    • Remove water from the waste material that passes from the small intestine into the colon,
    • Serve as a storage area for waste material, and
    • Help move and expel stool from the body.
    Constipation may occur because:
    • Too much water is removed by the colon, causing dry or hard stools,
    • Stool moves too slowly through the colon, or
    • The patient is unable to expel stools.
Normal bowel habits among healthy people vary greatly from three times a day to three times a week. In some individuals, constipation may refer to infrequent bowel movements (less than 3 per week). While troublesome, constipation is usually not serious. It should be treated and corrected to reduce abdominal discomfort and other related symptoms and to prevent the development of complications. Untreated chronic constipation may lead to or aggravate more serious problems such as hemorrhoids or fecal impaction (partial blockage due to hard stool). Measures to Treat Constipation
The goal of treatment is to reestablish normal bowel habits without the use of laxatives or enemas. The treatment measures listed below are explain in more detail in the following paragraphs.
