http://www.about-crohns-disease.com/html/symptoms___complications.php3
Crohn's Disease Symptoms and Complications
Initial Crohn's Disease symptoms are difficult to distinguish from other intestinal problems. Abdominal pain often occurs, especially in the lower right portion of the abdomen. Often, the pain is first mistaken for appendicitis. Abdominal cramps, spasms and diarrhea may also occur. Malnutrition and loss of appetite are also common symptoms; some may experience sudden weight loss. Not all people experience the same symptoms, however. For instance, some might not experience diarrhea, and some patients don't experience pain as a prominent symptom in the early stages of the disease.
Because Crohn's Disease often leads to malnutrition, which hinders the normal growth processes, children with the condition may experience developmental delays, both physically and mentally. Other Crohn's Disease Symptoms
These symptoms become more common as the disease progresses, but can vary widely from individual to individual:
  • joint pain fever fatigue anal sores bloating skin lesions or sores anal drainage.

Facts, Disease Prevention and Treatment Strategies
Inflammatory Bowel Disease Facts and Statistics
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a term that describes chronic inflammation disorder of the small and/or large intestine. The mucous membranes lining the colon become inflamed and develop ulcers, causing bloody diarrhea, pain, gas, bloating, and sometimes hard stools. Included within the area of inflammatory bowel is ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Both involve most of the same symptoms. However, ulcerative colitis is limited to the mucosa and submucosa, which are the first two layers of the lining of the bowel. Crohn's disease involves those two layers and also the next two layers below, the muscular layer and the connective tissue layer. The factors causing the two problems appear to be parallel. Since so many similarities exist the details of differences are not covered here.

FOR RELATIVES What does Crohn's do? How can you help? Side effects Home ... About me This is the ultimate Crohn's Disease web site with all the resources needed as a newly diagnosed patient. It is also a good pitstop for those of you who, like me, have been diagnosed for a longer time. As you can see, I have chosen to include information for relatives and friends to Crohn's patients as I have experienced there isn't much information availible online for this group. For those of you who are not new to this site, you can probably see that I have chosen to make some changes mainly to the layout of the site. Symptoms And Treatments For Crohn’s Disease
Crohn’s Disease causes severe inflammation of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It most often affects the small intestine, but can strike any area of the GI tract, from the mouth to the anus. In addition to the pain caused by inflammation, it can cause diarrhea, stomach ulcers, malnutrition and other complications.
Unfortunately, at this time, a cure for Crohn’s is not available, but steps can be taken to treat and help control the disease. The sooner treatment begins in the course of the disease, the easier it is to control symptoms and complications.
Crohn’s Treatments typically includes various combinations of surgery, anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, immunosuppressants, antibiotics, anti-TNF drugs (TNF is short for Tumor Necrosis Factor ), antidiarrheals and other symptom-suppressing drugs. Changes to diet and lifestyle may also be helpful. Crohn’s treatment varies widely, as does the location and severity of the disease, and response to therapy differs from individual to individual.
Health Maintenance
Gastroenterology has provided a range of treatment options for patients afflicted with the disease, but even the best Crohn’s treatment requires lifestyle changes. In very mild cases, medication such as an immunosuppressant combined with an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory drug may work, but most people also have to make dietary changes. For someone with Crohn’s Disease, ensuring that the body gets adequate nutrition while avoiding foods that aggravate the disease is very important.

Welcome to my page on Crohn's Disease. My name is Annee and I was diagnosed with this disease on August 27, 1998. For those of you out there who don't really know what it is, here's the rundown for you. Crohn's Disease, or Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), is a disease of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It predominates in the lower part of the small intestine (ileum) and the large intestine (colon), but may occur in any section of the GI tract. Crohn's usually causes diarrhea, crampy abdominal pain, fever, and at times, rectal bleeding. Loss of appetite and subsequent weight loss may also occur. Symptoms may range from mild to severe, but people with the disease can live active and productive lives. Crohn's Disease is chronic and the cause is unknown. Medication currently available decreases inflammation and usually will control symptoms, but does not provide a cure. It has been estimated that as many as 2 million Americans have IBD. Males and females seem to be affected equally and while it affects people of all ages, most cases are diagnosed in young people in their teens and early twenties. © Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, Inc.
