rachial plexus block offers many advantages over general anaesthesia for in- and out-patient surgery on the arm: reduced surgical stress response, increased blood flow to extremity (sympathectomy), better postoperative analgesia, earlier discharge for outpatients, fewer side-effects,... The classical approaches (interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular, and axillary) have been described for many years. Recently, there have been several modifications to these techniques, as well as new indications and/or approaches. This lecture will provide an update on the use of brachial plexus block for upper limb surgery.
Brachial plexus block and shoulder surgery
Arthroscopic shoulder surgery , C Severe pain occurs in 45% of patients after arthroscopy of the shoulder.[8] Opioids can control pain but have unwanted effects such as nausea, sedation, and dizziness. Intraarticular bupivacaine is ineffective for such pain.[8] Suprascapular nerve block is more efficient and causes fewer side effects than IV PCA with morphine.[9] As shown in Table I, it is less efficient (higher VAS scores, more supplemental analgesia) than ISB in the immediate postoperative period (4 hrs). Table I: Pain scores, supplemental analgesia, and satisfaction scores after arthroscopic

Comments
Finding an entirely new and immediately convincing method of pictorial expression is a rare occurence. The last I can think of was the invention of lithography between 1796 and 1798. Now come another.
(Pierre Jenneret, London Daily Mail art critic, 1959)
The unusual art of batik painting owes its development to a remarkable and industrious artist, Chuah Thean Teng of Penang. Throughout the art world he is known simply by the name he signs - Teng.
It is astonishing to think that although making batik has been common for hundreds of years, no one before Teng ever thought of adapting this age-old craft as a medium for fine art. Teng, and Teng alone, is responsible for this most original contribution to the whole world of art. As an artist in this old and new medium, Teng is the unquestioned master.
Painting by the batik method germinated from Teng’s own idea and determination. The possibilities of batik painting as a fine art were a revelation, but equally remarkable was the revolution which occured in’ Teng’s own approach to art.
