Genital warts are the result of infection with Human Papillomavirus (HPV), possibly the most common of all sexually transmittable infections. However, a person may have an HPV infection and have no visible warts on the genitals (outside or inside).
HPV/Genital Warts are generally spread by means of skin-to-skin and sexual contact, although HPV can also be spread from mother to child during birth. A person may also self-infect by having an area of infected skin or tissue touch another area on the person's own body. The virus also can be spread by contact with contaminated objects, clothing, or towels where the virus has been kept warm and moist for short periods of time between contacts. HPV affects both sexes and all races equally, though it is most commonly found in those aged 15 to 40 years old. Anyone who is sexually active, especially anyone with multiple sexual partners, is at risk of exposure to HPV. Persons whose immune systems are not working well are more likely to become infected and to have a more serious infection. Although the appearance of genital warts may be what most people dislike, the truly serious issue related to HPV infection is the strong association between certain types of HPV and conditions of dysplasia (a pre-cancerous cell growth) and squamous cell cancer - especially of the cervix in women. What Are Genital Warts? Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the virus that causes genital warts. It is one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted disease (STD) in the world. Experts estimate that as many as 26 million Americans are infected with HPV, and the rate of infection appears to be increasing. More than 60 types of HPV have been identified by scientists. About one-third of HPV types are spread through sexual contact and live only in genital areas of the body. Only one type of HPV causes genital warts. Other types of HPV cause cervical cancer and other genital cancers. Like many sexually transmitted diseases, HPV usually causes a silent infection one that does not have visible symptoms. People may not be aware of their infection or the potential risk of transmission to others and of the complications because they don't know they have it. Genital warts are are VERY CONTAGIOUS!

Genital Warts and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Genital HPV is the most common viral sexually transmitted infection in the United States. As many as one million cases of genital warts are diagnosed each year. WHAT IS HPV?
HPV, like all viruses, is a very small organism that needs to infect cells in order to survive. There are approximately 80 known types of HPV. Some types can cause warts on the hands or feet, while others can result in genital warts (condyloma). A person can be infected simultaneously with multiple HPV types. WHAT DO GENITAL WARTS LOOK LIKE?
Genital warts are flesh colored, firm growths or bumps that appear on the vulva, in or around the vagina or anus, on the cervix, and on the penis, scrotum, groin, or thigh. The warts may be raised or flat, single or multiple, small or large, and some may cluster together to form a cauliflower-like shape. HOW DO YOU GET HPV AND WHEN DO WARTS APPEAR?
HPV infection is usually spread by direct skin-to-skin contact during vaginal, oral, or anal sex with an infected individual. Very rarely, genital HPV will be spread through oral sex to mucous membranes of the mouth. After exposure, warts may begin to appear within several weeks; or they may take months or even years to appear; or they never appear at all. Most sex partners of infected persons probably are infected subclinically with HPV. From 60-90% of male partners of women with condyloma have HPV infection on the penis, although infection may not be visible to the naked eye. Whether partners who have subclinical HPV infection are as contagious as persons who have visible warts is not known. Not everyone who has come in contact with the virus will be infected.

Warts Warts are non-cancerous skin growths caused by a viral infection in the top layer of the skin or mucous membranes. Viruses that cause warts belong to a "family" called human papillomavirus (HPV). The appearance of a wart depends on where it is growing. Warts are usually skin colored and feel rough to the touch, but can be dark, flat or smooth. HOW MANY KINDS OF WARTS ARE THERE?
There are several different kinds of warts including: Common warts
Foot warts
Flat warts
Genital warts Common warts usually grow around the nails, on the fingers and on the backs of the hands. They are more common where skin has been broken, for example where fingernails are bitten or hangnails picked. Foot warts are usually on the soles of the feet and are called plantar warts. When plantar warts grow in clusters they are known as mosaic warts. Most plantar warts do not stick up because the pressure of walking flattens them and pushes them back into the skin. These warts often have black dots that are actually blood vessels. Plantar warts have a bad reputation because they can be painful, feeling like a stone in the shoe, and are often difficult to resolve. Flat warts are smaller and smoother than other warts. They tend to grow in great numbers - 20 to 100 at any one time. They can occur anywhere, but in children they are most common on the face. In adults they are often found in the beard area in men and on the legs in women. Irritation from shaving probably accounts for this.

Genital Warts Genital warts, also known as venereal warts or condylomata acuminata, are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). More than 80 types of HPV are known to exist and quite a few of these types cause genital warts, e.g. HPV types 6 and 11. Other HPV types cause common warts on the hands, feet, or elsewhere on the body. Other types (HPV types 16 and 18) can cause cancer of the cervix, the external genital skin, or the anus. Therefore, female partners of affected persons are recommended to see their gynecologist for occult infection. The HPV types that cause genital warts, however, very rarely cause cancer. Although genital warts are usually sexually transmitted, they can infrequently be seen in infants who have been delivered vaginally to mothers with HPV in their genital tracts. Genital warts are particularly a problem in pregnant women and in persons whose immunity has been lowered by cancer, AIDS, organ transplantation, immune suppressive medications, or certain other medications. Only a small percentage of people infected with HPV will develop genital warts. Many persons are "carriers" of HPV and may never develop warts but may still be able to pass HPV to their sexual partners. Although the incubation period from contacting HPV until development of warts may be several months, some people may not develop warts for years after contact with HPV.

... Non-specific Urethritis (NSU) The majority of the information on this page can be applied universally, and is not country specific. However, certain sections, such as 'Where to go for help', 'Treatment' and 'Testing' may be specific to the UK. Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus. The virus can affect the mouth, the genital area, the skin around the anus and the fingers. Once the first outbreak of herpes is over, the virus hides away in the nerve fibres, where it remains totally undetected and causes no symptoms. However, in some people, genital herpes may come back (recur) on the skin surface, at or near the place where it was caught. This may be when the person is ill or run down. Some people never get another outbreak. Types of the virus There are two types of the genital herpes virus. Either type is infectious, but:
  • Type I infects the mouth or nose. It is more likely to recur than if Type II infects this area.
  • Type II infects the genital and anal area, it is more likely to recur than if Type I infects this area. Genital and anal infections used to always be caused by Type II, but Type I is becoming more common in these areas, because more people are having oral sex.

At Waldon Research we have developed a powerful cream which acts against the viruses which cause Warts and Herpes (All strains of the viruses). We have created a Bio-oxidive cream, by combining one powerful anti-viral agent and infusing it with oxygen , we can not only control these diseases but kill the viruses that cause them. Viruses are anaerobic - they cannot exist in an elevated oxygen environment, Influenza, Herpes, Warts, Measles, Canker (Cold) Sores and HPV - anaerobic one and all. They exist and proliferate with little or no oxygen present. Significantly increase cellular oxygen levels and these anaerobic diseases cannot replicate, cannot proliferate, cannot exist. "The link between insufficient oxygen and disease has now been firmly established." Dr. W. Spencer Way, Journal of the American Associates of Physicians.

HOW DOES ALDARA WORK? External genital and perianal warts are cause by a virus called Human Papilloma Virus. These wart-like growths are oftentimes referred to as condyloma acuminata. While Aldara itself has not been demonstrated to have any of its own antiviral activity, Aldara cream is an immune response modifier that stimulates the body's own immune response system and helps the body fight this virus. It may do this via the induction of cytokines like alpha-interferon. Alpha-interferon is a complex compound normally produced by the human body that does have potent antiviral activity. Genital Warts and HPV (human papillomavirus)
    What are genital warts?
Genital warts are one of the most common STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) in the United States. Genital warts (condylomata acuminata), are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and usually occur in the genital and rectal areas; they can also occur in the mouth or other areas. Common skin warts of the hands or feet are caused by a similar virus, but they do not cause genital warts.
    What is HPV?
HPV is a virus consisting of more than 70 different types. Certain types cause genital warts. Sometimes HPV will not cause any symptoms at all but is still capable of being transmitted because the virus (HPV) is present in the tissue of the genitals or rectum. This is called an "asymptomatic infection" . HPV can also cause warts that appear flat on the surface of the skin or in areas where they are difficult to be seen (i.e. inside the penis or vagina or on the cervix); this is called a "subclinical infection"
How do I know if I have genital warts?
Genital warts may appear several weeks after exposure to HPV. Some may take months to appear or they may never appear. When they are visible, the warts appear singly or in clusters. They are pink/red or brown in color and may be flat or raised resembling tiny cauliflowers. On dry body areas they can be smaller, firm, pink, brown or yellow-to-grey in color.

    perianal warts.
    How do they show up?
Warts can take on a variety of appearances and are best described as fleshy growths. You may have spotted them yourself, or they may have been noticed by a doctor, nurse or your partner. Usually they are not painful although they can sometimes be irritable. It often takes at least several months before warts show up and of course they can be present without you realising it.
    Are they common?
A number of skin conditions are seen at GUM clinics and genital warts are seen more frequently than any other.
    How do you get them?
Warts can be passed on during sexual intercourse and close body contact. It is therefore important that your sexual partner is checked at a clinic for warts/ and other common infections which can encourage the growth of warts. It is possible to develop them in or around the mouth after oral sex with someone who has genital warts though this is uncommon. It is not unknown for them to be passed from the fingers to the genital area.
    What about partners
It is probably pointless to avoid sexual intercourse until the warts have been cleared. Condoms are usually ineffectual in preventing the spread of warts. However they are usually a very effective means of reducing the risk of other sexual infections and therefore should be considered even after the warts have disappeared. Remember however that warts only need skin to skin contact to be passed on. Current partners may benefit from a check-up too.

    Presentation
Patients complain of perineal itching, burning, pain and tenderness or they may be asymptomatic, especially with cervical and vaginal involvement, but noticed distinctive fleshy warts of the external genitalia or anus. Lesions are pedunculated or borad based with pink to gray soft excrescences, occuring in clusters or individually.
    What to do:
    • External warts seldom require biopsy for diagnosis. The differential diagnosis of anogenital warts includes molluscum cantagiosum, verruca vulgaris (common non-genital wart), secondary syphilis (condyloma lata), hypertrophic vulvar dystrophies and vulvar intraepithelial and invasive neoplasias. Consider atypical, pigmented, intravaginal cervical and persistant warts for referral for biopsy.
    • Prescribe podofilox 0.5% solution (Condylox) 3.5mL for self-treatment. Patients may apply podofilox with a cotton swab to warts twice daily for three days, followed by 4 days of no treatment. This cycle may be repeated as necessary for a total of 4 cycles. Total wart area treated should not exceed ten square centimeters and total volume of podofilox should not exceed 0.5mL per day. If possible, you should apply the initial treatment to demonstrate the proper application technique and identify which warts should be treated.
    • Alternatively, apply 25% podophyllin in tincture of benzoin (Podocon-25) 15mL using the above application technique and with the same dosage restrictions. Have the patient thoroughly wash off in 1-4 hours. This may be repeated weekly if necessary but if warts persist after six applications the patient should be referred for alternative therapy.

HPVs make up a group of more than 100 types of viruses. Most HPVs do no harm to a person. They are called papillomaviruses because they tend to cause warts, or papillomas . Warts are benign (noncancerous) growths. Different types of HPVs cause the warts that grow on the hands and soles of the feet, as well as those that grow on the mouth and genital area. The types of HPV that cause warts on the hands and feet do not cause genital warts. About 30 types of HPV are spread through sexual contact, causing infection and genital warts. These types of HPV can also cause cancer of the cervix (opening to the uterus, or womb) and other genital cancers. HPV is one of the most common causes of

Human papillomavirus, or HPV, is the name of a group of viruses. There are many types of HPV, including types that cause genital warts. HPV infection is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. What are genital warts? Genital warts are cauliflower-like growths that appear in the exposed area termed the vulva, the genital area including the penis, inside the vagina, on the cervix, or in the rectum area. They are also called condylomata acuminata, venereal warts, flat condylomata, human papillomavirus (HPV), or papovavirus warts. How do they occur? Genital warts are caused by a virus that's spread through sexual contact. They are more contagious, or more easily spread, than other warts. Genital warts are usually first seen 1 to 6 months after a person has been infected. It is possible, however, to be infected with the virus without having any visible warts. What are the symptoms?
