Gout has often been characterized as the King's proverbial swollen big toe. Indeed, gout was traditionally thought to be associated with an intake of too many rich foods. Actually, gout is typically brought on by the body's inability to eliminate excess uric acid, a by-product of purines. Attacks can be brought on by obesity, alcohol binges, hypertension, or extreme changes in diet. Gout can be treated using several methods. These include symptom-relieving medicines, preventive medicines and a diet of low-purine foods. About 2.1 million people in the United States suffer from gout. Aside from being extremely painful, gout can be an indicator for other serious illnesses. Click here for a
sample recipe
When you begin to control your diet with healthier eating, you are not only helping your body fight future attacks of gout, you are helping to fight other health problems as well. The recipes in Gout Hater's Cookbook avoid foods that are high in purines. They are designed to help you on your way to lowering uric acid levels by healthy, delicious eating.

Publication Date: April 2002 Questions and Answers About Gout This booklet contains general information about gout. It describes what gout is and how it develops. It also explains how gout is diagnosed and treated. If you have further questions after reading this booklet, you may wish to discuss them with your doctor. What Is Gout? Gout is one of the most painful rheumatic diseases. It results from deposits of needle-like crystals of uric acid in connective tissue, in the joint space between two bones, or in both. These deposits lead to inflammatory arthritis, which causes swelling, redness, heat, pain, and stiffness in the joints. The term arthritis refers to more than 100 different rheumatic diseases that affect the joints, muscles, and bones, as well as other tissues and structures. Gout accounts for approximately 5 percent of all cases of arthritis. Pseudogout is sometimes confused with gout because it produces similar symptoms of inflammation. However, in this condition, also called chondrocalcinosis, deposits are made up of calcium phosphate crystals, not uric acid. Therefore, pseudogout is treated somewhat differently and is not reviewed in this booklet.

  • Gout affects 2.1 million Americans. Men aged 40 to 50 are most commonly affected.
What is Gout? Known as "the disease of kings and the king of diseases," gout has been studied by physicians and has caused suffering in many people for centuries. Once horribly painful and debilitating, gout is now easily controlled with proper treatment. What causes it? Gout is one of the few types of arthritis where the cause is known. It results from deposits of needle-like crystals of uric acid in the connective tissue, joint spaces, or both. Uric acid is a byproduct of the breakdown of purines or waste products in the body. Normally uric acid breaks down in the blood and is eliminated in urine. When the body increases its production of uric acid or if the kidneys do not eliminate enough uric acid from the body, levels build up. This is called hyperuricemia. Hyperuricemia is not a disease and is not dangerous. However, if excess uric acid crystals form as a result of hyperuricemia, gout can develop.

What is Elixir of life?
In Brief.... W
henever we attempt to determine whether life as we know it exists on Mars or on other planets, scientists first seek to establish if water is present. Why? Because life on Earth totally depends on water. Even seventy to ninety percent of all organic matter is composed of water. So water is the essence of life. The human body can manage to survive without food for well over one month, but without water we can only survive for a few days. At least eight glasses of water a day should be consumed and we are not talking about tea, coffee, sodas, colas, and alcoholic drinks, which are highly acidic and all strong diuretics. Muncipal water today is a best of a bad job. Increasing pollutants force the authorities to add chlorine and othe purifiying agents in the water thereby decreasing the nutrient supply through it which is much needed for the human body today. Here are some more alarming facts:
The answer to this is plain and simple and lies in the very essence of life and that is
Alkaline Ion Water !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Birmingham, Alabama
Birmingham, Alabama is one of those cities that is truly greater than the sum of its parts. Originally called Elyton, Birmingham grew from an insignificant farm community to an industrial giant in the late 1800s. At the beginning of the 20th century Birmingham's mills continued to produce the iron and steel needed to defend freedom and build a new world. Although its reputation suffered during the turbulence of the 1960s and 70s, the influence of the University of Alabama at Birmingham has given the city a renewed sense of 'becoming' as it enters the 21st century.
Birmingham has developed a vibrant manufacturing and service oriented economy without sacrificing its unique southern charm. It's small wonder that Mercedes Benz chose the Birmingham metro area as the location to build its popular M-series cars. Recent publications have also noted that Birmingham is among the top communities for growing a business. Both employment and reasonably priced housing are plentiful to residents and those relocating to Alabama.
Whether it is history, the arts, outdoor activities, shopping, nightlife or even the thrill of the Talladega Raceway, you can find it in Birmingham.

What Is It? Calcium Pyrophosphate Dihydrate Crystal Deposition (CAL-see-um PIE-row-FOX-fate DIE-high-drate DEH-poo-ZISH-un) is a condition that causes pain, redness, heat, and swelling in one or more joints. Also referred to as Pseudo Gout or Chondrocalcinosis. What Causes It? It is caused by deposits of calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystals in a joint, which weaken the cartilage and cause it to break down more easily. The presence of these tiny CPPD crystals in the joints, and the body's reaction to these crystals, creates inflammation to attack the crystals. It is not known why the body forms these crystals, but may be an abnormality in the cartilage cells or connective tissue. The cause also may be a genetic tendency. What Are the Effects?
