Better Vision through eye exercises!!!! Pediatric Optometry, Bifocal Contact Lenses, Glasses, Glaucoma, Cataracts, Health Disorders, Hartford County, Clearly Seeing. The purpose of this site is to give a little background of what we do, and to help inform you of the many aspect's involved in vision. Fluctuating vision or headaches can indicate focusing problems. Headaches, double vision, poor reading comprehension, poor attention skills, poor depth perception, or utilization of only one eye often arise from poor eye alignment (convergence or divergence). Clumsiness, poor balance, poor reading, poor attention skills, and difficulty with sports may be due to inaccuracy of eye movements. Trouble with puzzles, games, or construction may be derived from poor shape recognition. Fortunately, most of these problems can be trained by Vision Therapy. Vision Therapy is composed of eye exercises. These exercises train the efficiency of each aspect of the visual system, and teaches the patient to combine all components. Pediatric Optometry is very important in development of the eyes. Pediatric optometry should be performed on every patient at 6 months old, 2 years old, and then 6 years old. After the age of 6, the patient should return yearly. If developmental abnormalities are discovered early, a child can usually be corrected. Some common pediatric abnormalities are congenital cataracts (born with), large differences in refractive error (different prescriptions between the two eyes), congenital glaucoma, Lazy Eye, and many other problems that may go undetected until the child becomes older.

Because headaches are so common, some people think that getting a headache is just a normal part of life!
    • Headaches are a sign that something's wrong.
    • Stress, toxic fumes, certain foods, preservatives, and alcohol are common culprits.
THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF HEADACHES A frequent and overlooked cause of headaches is the malfunction of spinal bones in the neck and upper back. When bones of the spine lose their normal position or motion, sensitive nerves and blood vessels to the head can be affected. When spinal nerves and related tissues are stretched or irritated, they can produce throbbing headaches. Aspirin and medications may cover up these warning signs, but do not correct the underlying structural cause. Many people find relief and correction with chiropractic care. If a thorough examination reveals reduced range of motion, loss of normal spinal curves, or mechanical restrictions, chiropractic care should be considered. After a complete explanation, you'll receive a care program designed for your unique spinal problem. Many patients report headache relief. Others find that the correction of their problem takes longer because their spinal problem has existed undetected for many years. Every patient responds differently. Regardless of how you respond, enjoy the drug-free results millions have enjoyed by consulting a chiropractic doctor.

    Causes of Migraine Headaches
by Sue Dyson Anyone who has ever suffered from migraine will be only too aware of the effects of the illness on daily life. According to the National Headache Foundation — an organization set up to help migraine and other headache sufferers — American industry loses around $50 billion from absenteeism and medical expenses, all linked to headache pain. In fact, headaches account for about 157 million lost working days in a year. But we are not just talking about inconvenience and economic difficulties; the cost in terms of individual suffering is infinitely higher. Apart from the practical problems they face, sufferers and their friends and families are often in a state of anxiety and bewilderment, particularly in the days following initial diagnosis. There is no doubt at all that migraine has a significant effect on the daily lives of all sufferers and their families. Even those who suffer

Migraine: A Pain in the Meninges
03:00 AM Apr. 22, 1999 PT Migraines may not be caused by dilated blood vessels in the brain, as experts have believed for years. Instead, they may stem from changes in the protective tissue that covers the brain, researchers said Wednesday. Special brain scans done at Johns Hopkins University while patients were in the throes of an attack show that migraines are marked by an inflammation of the meninges, the tissue covering the brain.

Speaking at a meeting of the American Academy of Neurology in Toronto, Dr. Marco Pappagallo and colleagues said that patients in the midst of attacks underwent SPECT (single photon-emission computerized tomography) scans of their heads over several hours and days. The scans revealed bright, diffuse patches a sign of inflammation around areas in the meninges that precisely matched the spots where patients said they felt their headaches, Pappagallo said.

Soon I was howling "There's a new Sheriff in town, and his name is Mark Margaretten!" It's safe to assume that the name stuck.

    http://www.aacfp.org/headaches.html
Headaches and Dental Health One in eight Americans suffer from recurring headaches that are so severe they cannot carry out normal living! An estimated 80% of all headaches occur from muscle tension. Did you know that many tension headaches are related to your bite? This article explains how headaches can result from dental stress and how your dentist might treat them.
Headaches are our number one pain problem in the United States. Approximately 40% of all "healthy" individuals suffer from chronic headaches. Head pain is not new. Early civilizations relied on magical potions and spells to cure headaches. In severe cases, holes were drilled in the skulls of headache sufferers so that the evil spirits which were believed to be the cause of the pain could escape. Over the years we have learned much about what causes headaches and how to treat them. Today, there is a growing realization that a common cause of tension headaches is a bad bite.
    Headaches from Dental Stress
How can your bite cause a headache? Tension headaches result from muscle strain, or contraction. When muscles are held tight for long periods of time they begin to ache. Headaches from dental stress are a type of muscle tension headache. A tension headache may be on one or both sides of your head. Or, it may surround your head as if a steel band were wrapped around it. The pain feels like a dull, non-throbbing ache. Tension headaches are usually relieved by aspirin. Specific signs which indicate that the headache may have a dental origin include:

Overview Headaches may occur for any number of reasons including: sinus conditions, hypertension, allergies, tumors, hormonal changes, and most frequently, stress. They are not usually associated with problems related to the eyes. Migraine headaches Migraine, a type of headache that is often hereditary, usually first surfaces between the ages of 15 and 30. They are most common among women and are thought to be related to stress and some foods. Migraine headaches may cause visual symptoms such as light flashes , temporary blind spots, and blurred vision. Migraines are thought to be caused by the dilation and constriction of arteries in the head. These headaches can be extremely painful. The pain is often limited to one side of the head, and may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. In many cases, migraines are believed to be brought on by stress. This "Friday night" headache often follows the stress relief of a frenetic week during which the blood vessels in the head relax and constrict. Certain foods and additives such as chocolate, alcohol, dairy, and MSG are also attributed to migraines. However, for many, the cause is variable and extremely difficult to pinpoint.

What kinds of headaches are there?
More than 90 percent of headaches can be classified as tension-type, migraine or cervicogenic. Migraines are periodic severe, throbbing headaches that afflict far fewer people (and more women than men), usually hurt on one side of the head, can cause loss of appetite, nausea and even vomiting, and may involve a visual change called an aura. Cervicogenic headache is a muskuloskeletal form of tension-type headache (which may also be related to migraines). Many times, cervicogenic headache goes undiagnosed as such due to the relative newness of this classification. Who suffers from headaches? Many millions of adults, worldwide, get headaches regularly. Headaches are among the most common physical complaints prompting people to treat themselves or get professional assistance. One estimate holds that some 50 million people in the U.S. get severe, long-lasting, recurring headaches. Most headaches are not signs of serious underlying conditions, but they can be very distracting, debilitating and account for significant amounts of time lost from work.
