HEMORRHOIDS
WHAT IS IT?

Hemorrhoids-swollen veins inside or outside the anus-often called "varicose veins of the anus and rectum"-are one of the most common health problems. Fifty to 75 percent of all Americans get hemorrhoids in their lifetimes. Although hemorrhoids can appear at any age, people usually tend to get them after age 30. They are also more common among pregnant women. Hemorrhoids can be uncomfortable and sometimes painful but are pretty harmless. They never lead to serious disease. Be aware, though, that some hemorrhoid symptoms such as bleeding can be similar to those of more serious problems like colon cancer. If you notice bleeding from the anus or other symptoms, don't rely on over-the-counter medications to clear them up. Be sure to see a doctor at the first sign of bleeding or if your hemorrhoids don't go away. Most of the time, hemorrhoid pain and itching lingers for a few days. Often, symptoms come back. But hemorrhoids usually improve with better bowel habits and home treatment. You should know, too, that other anorectal problems-like fissures, abscesses, and general irritation and itching-are often confused for hemorrhoids. back to All Conditions

http://www.herbalcomfortproducts.com/Hemorrhoids.htm

Ancient Wisdom + Modern Techniques = Relief
We know that having hemorrhoids is a serious matter. Not only is it painful; it can interfere with our ability to function effectively in both the work place and at home. At the same time, it is an often embarrassing, even frightening condition that we find hard to talk about. Hem-Tab and Hem-Tea are highly effective treatments that can help you win the battle with hemorrhoids and stop your suffering. We guarantee our products and by following our treatment program you will feel relief, or Your Money Back
Based on an ancient Chinese formula that has been used in China for over 2,000 years, Hem-Tea and Hem-Tab treat the source of the problem to ease and eliminate the symptoms of hemorrhoids. Hem-Tea and Hem-Tab gently heal without any known side effects and are a proven effective treatment for hemorrhoids which are commonly linked to post-natal stress, prolonged constipation, long periods of sitting, improper diet, lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle or heavy lifting. Taken as a food supplement, they offer relief from hemorrhoids (internal and external) and their symptoms, including swelling, bleeding, pain, itching, burning and prolapsed rectum. While topical ointments constitute a multi-billion dollar industry, they provide minor temporary relief only. Surgical removal of hemorrhoids can be costly, painful and result in lack of stool retention for the rest of the patient's life. With either option, the recurrence rate is high because neither treatment deals with the real problem.

Selected Users of Hem-Tab and Hem-Tea share its dramatic results... "Dear Herbal Comfort Products, I never had hemorrhoids before until this year. I used your product twice. After the first try, I e-mailed you asking if there was a way to make it taste better. You wrote back, telling me to just choke it down, it really works. Well, I did manage to choke down one more dose. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I'm not normally one to brag to my friends about something like this but your product really worked. I haven't had a flare-up since. My best friend has 'rhoids and he just keeps using preparation H to take away the itching. I keep telling him about your product. I think I have about 4 doses left. Maybe I'll give them to him as a wedding gift! (he's getting married this fall)." Sincerely,
Jon Neumann "I had excruciatingly painful hemorrhoids for about four months. There were days that the pain was so bad that I couldn't drive to work. I tried everything that either my doctor recommended or that I read about, including ointments, suppositories, warm baths, diet changes and even a product that uses low temperature treatment. Nothing worked until I came across your web-site. I ordered a week's worth of the tea and one week's worth of the tablets. (I have taken similar teas before so the taste did not really bother me.) After two doses of the tea, the pain was gone! I continued with the tea for a week and used the tablets up also. It's been about a month now and I haven't had a recurrence of the hemorrhoids. If I do, I know the first thing I will do is order more Herbal Comfort Products. Thanks."

Still have hemorrhoids from the pregnancy
May 2002 Several months after my second child was born, I still have hemorrhoids from the pregnancy. I do everything recommended by the doctors (including drinking lots of water, eating fiber, exercising, and the various medications) and constipation is not a problem. I'm frustrated and on the verge of considering the more extreme solutions such as surgery. Before I do so, I wonder if anyone has tried alternative medicine for this problem. I've had acupuncture, but it didn't seem to help. You didn't mention how long it's been since you delivered your baby. I had terrible hemmoroids with my first child and I'm happy to say that I didn't have any with my second. It took ages for them to finally go away. I adapted my diet as you did. Then, ever time one popped out, I pushed it back in. I used a drop of vitamin e oil, though I think you could probably use nearly anything slippery. I also, and still continue to cleanse with wet toilet paper instead of dry. It's much more comfortable, effective, and cost conscience than adult wipes. There's also no extra chemicals. Then the other thing I did, is begin an exercise program that includes toning my perineal musculature. That has really helped then not come back. Also, less sitting and more movement breaks. I hope this helps. Good luck. Dori

Intense chronic itching in the anal region. Pruritus ani is a common problem with many causes. The most common exogenous causes are using harsh soaps, using sensitizing perfumes or deodorizers, wiping excessively with toilet paper, and wearing synthetic underwear or tight, warm clothing, which promotes sweating. Other causes include fungal diseases (eg, epidermophytosis), parasites (eg, pinworms), psoriasis, and neoplastic disorders (eg, Paget's disease, Bowen's disease). Psychologic factors may also contribute. Some topical drugs used to treat anal disorders (eg, lidocaine, benzocaine) may produce an intensely pruritic contact dermatitis. Some oral

Varicosities of the veins of the hemorrhoidal plexus, often complicated by inflammation, thrombosis, and bleeding. External hemorrhoids are located below the dentate line and are covered by squamous epithelium. Internal hemorrhoids are located above the dentate line and are lined by rectal mucosa. Hemorrhoids typically occur in the right anterior, right posterior, and left lateral zones and universally affect adults and children.
    Symptoms, Signs, and Diagnosis
Hemorrhoids are often asymptomatic but may cause bleeding, protrusion, and pain. Rectal bleeding should be attributed to hemorrhoids only after more serious conditions are excluded. Hemorrhoidal bleeding, which typically follows defecation and is noted on toilet tissue, rarely leads to anemia or severe hemorrhage. External and internal hemorrhoids can protrude; they may regress spontaneously or be reduced manually. Only thrombosed or ulcerated hemorrhoids are painful. A thrombosed hemorrhoid presents as a perianal protrusion with pain varying from nonexistent to severe. Ulcerated, edematous, or strangulated hemorrhoids (acute attack of piles) can cause severe pain. Less commonly, internal hemorrhoids cause mucus discharge and a sensation of incomplete evacuation, and external hemorrhoids cause difficulty in cleansing the anal region. Pruritus ani is usually not a symptom of hemorrhoids.

hemorrhoids By Gail Hendrickson, RN, BS Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels that are found in and around the anus and lower rectum. They can be internal, which means inside the anus. Or, they may be external, which means they are found outside the anus. What is going on in the body? The blood vessels around the anus swell and may bleed or cause other symptoms. The exact cause of hemorrhoids is not always clear. What are the signs and symptoms of the condition? You may have hemorrhoids for years without them causing any health problems. If you do have symptoms, they most often include: a lump around the anus mucus-like discharge from the rectum rectal bleeding, which may be seen as red streaks on the toilet paper or blood in the toilet bowl rectal pain and itching What are the causes and risks of the condition? Hemorrhoids are related to dilated blood vessels, but the exact cause is not always clear. Some types of hemorrhoids run in families. Other factors that increase your risk for hemorrhoids include: alcoholism anal intercourse chronic diarrhea cancer of the rectum or colon a diet that lacks fiber frequent coughing and sneezing liver disease , such as cirrhosis loss of muscle tone in the rectum due to aging and rectal surgery obesity jobs that require standing or sitting for long periods of time pregnancy straining due to constipation What can be done to prevent the condition?

    What are hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are enlarged veins in the anal area that are covered by the lining of the rectum or anal skin. They are similar to varicose veins in the leg. They may be located inside the anus (internal hemorrhoids) or outside the anus (external hemorrhoids). It is fairly common for people to have both internal and external hemorrhoids at the same time. There are usually three internal and three external hemorrhoids. Why do people get hemorrhoids?
There is no easy answer to this question. While everyone has veins in this area, not everyone develops hemorrhoid problems. The enlargement of the veins may be due to constipation, prostate trouble in men, or chronic cough, all of which cause straining and increased pressure on the abdomen. They may be related in part to a diet without bulk food and roughage (such as bran, fresh fruit and fresh vegetables). There may be a hereditary factor in some cases, or, there may be no specific explanation at all. Some people develop hemorrhoids for as yet undiscovered reasons. Are hemorrhoids caused by heavy lifting, prolonged sitting, or other work-related activities?

The mere word can make you wince. That's because hemorrhoids are painful, swollen veins around the rectum that can itch and bleed. They can be aggravated by constipation, or by the weight of your uterus and baby. The best way to avoid hemorrhoids is to stay as regular as possible.
    • Eat plenty of fiber, drink plenty of water, and get plenty of rest and exercise. Avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time. Take frequent warm baths. Talk with your healthcare provider if your hemorrhoids bleed.

They often go unnoticed and usually clear up after a few days, but can cause long-lasting discomfort, bleeding and be excruciatingly painful. Effective medical treatments are available, however. Description Hemorrhoids (also called piles) can be divided into two kinds, internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids lie inside the anus or lower rectum, beneath the anal or rectal lining. External hemorrhoids lie outside the anal opening. Both kinds can be present at the same time. Hemorrhoids are a very common medical complaint. More than 75% of Americans have hemorrhoids at some point in their lives, typically after age 30. Pregnant women often develop hemorrhoids, but the condition usually clears up after childbirth . Men are more likely than women to suffer from hemorrhoids that require professional medical treatment. Causes and symptoms Precisely why hemorrhoids develop is unknown. Researchers have identified a number of reasons to explain hemorrhoidal swelling, including the simple fact that people's upright posture places a lot of pressure on the anal and rectal veins. Aging obesity pregnancy , chronic constipation or diarrhea , excessive use of enemas or laxatives , straining during bowel movements, and spending too much time on the toilet are considered contributing factors. Heredity may also play a part in some cases. There is no reason to believe that hemorrhoids are caused by jobs requiring, for instance, heavy lifting or long hours of sitting, although activities of that kind may make existing hemorrhoids worse.

Therefore, natural approaches to hemorrhoids sometimes focus on overcoming constipation.

Aesculus hippocastanum: When this remedy is needed, hemorrhoids are sore and aching, with a swollen feeling. Pain may last for hours after the bowels have moved. People who need this remedy often have the sensation of a lump, or a feeling that a lot of small sharp sticks are inside the rectum, poking them. Sharp and shooting pains may be felt in the rectum and back. A person who needs this remedy may also have low back problems. Aloe: Arnica montana: Sore, bruised-feeling hemorrhoids may be relieved with this remedy, especially when straining or over-exertion (for instance, childbirth or heavy lifting) has brought on the hemorrhoids. Calcarea fluorica: This remedy may be indicated for hemorrhoids with bleeding and itching in the anal region, or internal hemorrhoids causing soreness in the very low back and sacrum. The person may also have problems with flatulence and constipation.

    What Are Hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids, often called piles, are clusters of veins in the anus, just under the membrane that lines the lowest part of the rectum and anus. They occur when veins in your rectum become enlarged from straining or increased pressure.
A sometimes embarrassing topic of discussion, hemorrhoids are common. By age 50, about half of adults will deal with the itching, burning and pain that often signal the presence of this condition.
Fortunately, effective medications and procedures are readily available to treat hemorrhoids. In many cases the condition may require only self-care and lifestyle changes.
    Signs and Symptoms
Symptoms usually depend on where the hemorrhoid is located:
    • Internal hemorrhoids. You can't see or feel these hemorrhoids. But straining or irritation caused by passing stool can injure a hemorrhoid's delicate surface and cause it to bleed. You may notice small amounts of bright red blood on your toilet tissue or in the toilet bowl. Because internal membranes lack pain-sensitive nerve fibers, these hemorrhoids usually don't cause discomfort. However, you may experience a feeling of fullness in your rectum following a bowel movement. Occasionally, straining can push an internal hemorrhoid through the anal opening. If a hemorrhoid remains displaced (prolapsed), it can cause a constant dull ache. When irritated, it can itch or bleed.
    • External hemorrhoids.

    Introduction
Hemorrhoids bother about 89% of all Americans at some time in their lives. Hemorrhoids caused Napoleon to sit side-saddle, sent President Jimmy Carter to the operating room, and benched baseball star George Brett during the 1980 World Series. Over two thirds of all healthy people reporting for physical examinations have hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are cushions of tissue and varicose veins located in and around the rectal area. When they become inflamed, hemorrhoids can itch, bleed, and cause pain. Unfortunately a hemorrhoidal condition only tends to get worse over the years, NEVER better. That is why we advocate safe, gentle, and effective treatment for hemorrhoids, as soon as they occur. top Pictures: Hemorrhoids and Anal Fissure
Internal hemorrhoids occur higher up in the anal canal, out of sight. Bleeding is the most common symptom of internal hemorrhoids, and often the only one in mild cases. View hemorrhoid gallery for detailed photos.
