CD and Me
My personal story of Crohn's Disease. I have been in remission for 20 years and some have suggested I have forgotten what its like. Rest assured, I haven't forgotten and never will. The thought is also always in the back of my mind that it can come back at any time... but I don't dwell on it. I just enjoy everyday that I have.
Attitude
Having a good attitude can be difficult with all an IBDer must endure. This doesn't deal specifically with bowel disease, but it is a shining example of how to have a good attitude.

Recommended Products Vitamin D for Inflammatory Bowel Disease The all-important nutrient, Vitamin D, may help to reduce some of the symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease, new research suggests. Researchers from Pennsylvania State University note that "Anecdotal data suggest that the amount of vitamin D available in the environment either from sunshine exposure or diet may be an important factor affecting the development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in humans." They decided to test the theory in animal experiments by using mice genetically predisposed to develop symptoms resembling human IBD. The mice were separated into 3 groups.

The thrust of the site, is for people using the SCD to control gastrointestinal disease. The SCD closely mirrors, although it is not identical to the regular diet recommended at the Optimal Wellness Center One glaring example is their allowance of some cheeses and dairy products. Another difference is the lack of attention to food quality.

    Inflammatory Bowel Disease
(Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease) What are the similarities between ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease?
Both ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are referred to as inflammatory bowel disease . Since ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease result in a wide range of similar symptoms (including diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and weight loss), establishing a precise diagnosis is often quite difficult. Extensive diagnostic testing is required and this may take some time. Both conditions have periods during which symptoms subside (remissions) as well as periods during which symptoms become more severe. Neither disease is contagious, neither disease is associated with any genetic predisposition, and neither disease has any specific proven cause. Many factors are thought to play a role in the development of both diseases. Among these factors are bacteria, the patient's own immune system, and abnormalities of the bowel itself. What are the important differences between these diseases?

    What is inflammatory bowel disease?
Inflammatory bowel disease is the name given to several similar disorders of the intestine. The main problem is that the lining of the intestine is irritated, tender and easily damaged. When the lining of the small intestine is inflamed and irritated, this is called ileitis or enteritis. When the large intestine (colon) is involved, this is termed colitis. Inflammation of the rectum is called proctitis. Is there more than one kind of inflammation?
There are three patterns which this inflammation may take. In ulcerative colitis, the inflammation usually is confined to part or all of the colon. The second pattern, called Crohn's disease, affects the small intestine and/or the colon. A third type, called proctitis, is a milder form of inflammatory bowel disease in which the disease usually is limited to the rectum. What are the symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease?
