Anorexics: More than half doing well 20 years later
With time, about half of women with anorexia nervosa fully recover from the eating disorder, according to results of a study of patients examined 21 years after being diagnosed with the condition. However, among those study participants who did not fully recover, 16% had died of causes related to the eating disorder and the remaining women were still struggling with the disease or had died of other causes. Despite eating all day, binge eaters can not fill stomachs
One sandwich, half a bag of chips, two sodas and three cookies later, people suffering from binge eating still aren't full. In fact, they continuously eat throughout the day, trying to fill their stomachs. Early Diagnosis Improves Anorexia Outcome
Girls treated early for anorexia before their weight has dropped to extreme levels have the best chance of fully recovering from the eating disorder, German doctors said Friday. A follow-up study of 84 anorexia patients 21 years after they were first treated for the disease showed that patients who had suffered for a long time before they were treated had the worst outcomes. Profile: Woman tells of pain she suffered from with anorexia
Jones, like many who suffer with eating disorders, became obsessed with food in order to control the chaos in her environment. "My family was having a lot of difficulties. The home situation was poor. The most important thing was being pretty and being skinny. I just wanted to be liked so much," Jones said.
