Menstruation is part of a women's life, and it is a healthy phenomenon although healthier have its inconveniences and annoyances during menstruation. Your period should come regularly every 28 days, 3-4 days duration without clotting of blood or so, and the blood you should expect to lose is equivalent to about a quarter of a cup. Some women get irregular periods, or periods that come regularly but with longer intervals in between. Others have a "flood" of blood each month, which makes normal life difficult and potentially embarrassing. A few women have a combination of problems! Unusual periods do not necessarily mean there is anything wrong with you, but may be very annoying. Amenorrhoea…. When periods disappear For more sexually active women in their reproductive years, the absence of periods is a clear signal of pregnancy. And in older non-pregnant women, amenorrhoea may mean that menopause is approaching or has arrived. In both groups of women, amenorrhoea is perfectly normal. However, in some cases amenorrhoea can indicate an underlying medical problem.
Primary amenorrhoea is present when a young girl has not started to menstruate even at age 16. This may be because she has some hormonal imbalance or developmental problem, which can often be treated with Homoeopathic medicines. Amenorrhoea, more commonly affects women who have previously had regular menstrual cycles. A variety of reasons can cause secondary amenorrhoea such as hormonal imbalance, excessive exercise, underweight loss or weight gain, stress or discontinuation of the birth control pill.

Problems with Menstrual Flows Normal Menstrual Flows Fluid Retention Late for a Period Cramps ... Headaches Normal Menstrual Flows About once a month, women of childbearing age normal menstruate for 4-6 days, losing between 25 and 60 cc of blood. The blood is dark in color and mixed with mucous, inflammatory exudate, and cellular debris, representing the shed lining of the uterus. Day #1 of the menstrual cycle is designated as the first day of the menstrual flow. At approximately Day #14, one or the other ovaries releases an egg (ovulation), an event which may or may not be perceived by the woman. With ovulation, some women notice brief abdominal cramping while others do not. Some women notice a small amount of pink vaginal discharge or spotting, while others do not. Some women notice a significant, brief, increase in cervical mucous secretions (evidenced in vaginal discharge) but others do not. Following ovulation, progesterone, the other female hormone (other than estrogen) is produced in significant quantities. Progesterone has a number of functions, but in the normal menstrual cycle, continues to be produced by the ovary for 10-12 days. Following the abrupt fall in progesterone, a new menstrual flow is triggered, starting several days after the drop in progesterone. Cramps Menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea) are among the most common of menstrual cycle symptoms. They may be mild, moderate or severe, and may not be consistent from one cycle to the next. They are usually midline and suprapubic. The cramps are waxing and waning in character but a constant dull ache is also common. The pain may radiate into the back or upper anterior thighs.

Bovista : Premenstrual problems with puffiness in the extremities, fluid retention, and a bloated feeling often indicate a need for this remedy. The woman may feel very awkward and clumsy, and may constantly be dropping things because of swollen-feeling hands. Diarrhoea occurring around the time of the menstrual period strongly indicates this remedy. Calcarea carbonica : PMT with fatigue, anxiety, and a feeling of being overwhelmed suggest a need for this remedy. The woman may have problems with water-retention and weight gain, tender breasts, digestive upsets, and headaches. Periods often come too early and last too long, sometimes with a flow of bright red blood. A general feeling of chilliness, with clammy hands and feet, and cravings for sweets and eggs are other indications for Calcarea Caulophyllum : This remedy is often helpful to women with a history of irregular periods, difficulty becoming pregnant, or slow childbirth due to weak muscle tone of the uterus. Symptoms include discomfort during periods and a heavy flow of blood or other discharge. Drawing pains may be felt in the pelvic region, thighs, and legs. Stiffness or arthritis, especially in the finger-joints, often is seen when this remedy is needed. Chamomilla : A woman likely to respond to this remedy is angry, irritable, and hypersensitive to pain. Cramping may come on, or be intensified, because of emotional upset. Flow can be very heavy, and the blood may look dark or clotted. Problems are often worse at night. Heating pads or exposure to wind may aggravate the symptoms, and motion (such as rocking or brisk walking) may help to reduce the tension and discomfort.

Menstrual Problems
All women of childbearing age experience a menstrual period about once a month - but for some women, this normal occurrence causes considerable discomfort. Here are some of the most common menstrual problems:
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS):
Almost every woman is familiar with at least some of the symptoms of PMS.
Here are some of the most common:
  • Irritability Breast tenderness Mood swings Bloating or fluid retention Feelings of sadness or depression - "the blues"
You can almost always get some relief from PMS symptoms by making healthy changes in your lifestyle.
These include:
  • Exercise more - no one is sure why this helps, but it does. Stress control - this can help you cope with PMS symptoms more effectively. Diet - limiting sugar and caffeine helps.
A small minority of women suffer from debilitating PMS. If your PMS symptoms are so severe that they're disrupting your life, see your doctor - there are hormonal treatments available that may help.
Cramps:
More than half of all women suffer from abdominal cramps during the first few days of their menstrual periods. During your menstrual cycle, the uterine lining is built up in preparation for a pregnancy. When no pregnancy occurs, the lining is sloughed off, and your menstrual period occurs. The pain of cramps is caused when the uterus contracts slightly to help slough off the uterine lining.

Just For Women ..... Just In Time
AIM RevitaFem™ Cycle I and AIM RevitaFem™ Cycle II. As women age, a major concern is menopause, when hormone levels begin to drop and the menses cease. At this time, many women experience a wide range of discomforts, such as hot flashes, mood swings, and irregular periods. Osteoporosis also becomes more of a concern at this time. The lack of estrogen may speed up bone loss. Estrogen and progesterone play major roles in the female physiology. They control the menstrual cycle and the process of ovulation, and in doing so, conception. As they ebb, they result in menopause. The foundation of the two AIM RevitaFem™ products is based on a proprietary blend of soy isoflavones and wild yam root extract. We add other special herbs to this blend to provide two products that combine natural phytoestrogens with botanicals targeted to women's concerns. Wild yam root contains phytoestrogens, with the most well-known being diosgenin. Diosgenin has a structure similar to that of the hormone progesterone and is often used as the starting point in the manufacture of progesterone. However, diosgenin is not turned into progesterone by the body. Wild yam root is recognized as an antispasmodic, and many women attest that it helps them maintain menstrual health and enjoy a stress-free menopause. AIM RevitaFem™ Cycle I was formulated for younger, on-the-go women. It contains the proprietary soy isoflavones and wild yam root extract, along with botanicals targeted to help maintain menstrual health. Women concerned with having a regular and healthy menstrual cycle will be interested in

and Menorrhagia
Menstrual cycles seem to come and go easily for some women; others face a monthly challenge. Women who experience difficulty with menstruation, such as premenstrual syndrome and menorrhagia, may find some relief by using a homeopathic remedy. Sepia 30c : Sepia may be helpful when the menstrual cycle is accompanied by a sense of weight or heaviness in the pelvis or lower back. Prior to menstruation, women may experience weepiness, irritability, or depression, along with a sense of dealing with too many demands of life and a desire to be left alone. Women who may benefit from Sepia are often chilly and dislike stuffy rooms, preferring fresh air. Sepia 30c can be taken two to three times per day for one day only. Pulsatilla 30c : For women who experience substantial weight fluctuations around their menstrual cycle, Pulsatilla may be helpful. A feeling of bloating or water retention before the flow begins, or a craving for sweet or creamy foods may be present. Mood swings, periods of crying easily with a desire to be cared for or consoled by others, or a strong sense of loneliness are experienced by those who may benefit from Pulsatilla. Often the menstrual cycle is irregular, for example, coming early one month and late the next; the flow may be changeable as well, sometimes light and other times very heavy. Pulsatilla 30c can be taken two to three times per day for one day only. Cimicifuga 6c Lycopodium 30c : Menstrual periods are often delayed, but once started tend to be too profuse and last too long in women who benefit from this remedy. The periods are often preceded by depression and irritability, feelings that disappear as soon as the flow begins. The woman may perspire profusely, even after gentle exercise. Try Lycopodium 30c in the evening and morning for two to three days every month for three months.

Facts, Disease Prevention and Treatment Strategies
PMS Facts and Statistics
As many as 90% of all women will have to deal with the aches, pains and emotional stress of Premenstrual Syndrome or PMS at some time during their reproductive years while 30% to 40% of all women will have symptoms distressing enough to interfere with their everyday lives. Some of the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome include abdominal bloating, acne, anxiety, backache, breast swelling and tenderness, cramps, depression, food cravings, fainting spells, fatigue, headaches, insomnia, altered sex drive, swelling of the fingers and ankles, and personality changes such as drastic mood swings, outbursts of anger, violence, and thoughts of suicide. On the average, menstruation begins at twelve or thirteen years of age and ends with menopause. The typical cycle lasts about 28 days with the first day of the cycle being the first day of bleeding. The menstrual cycle is regulated by changes in the endometrium or the membrane lining of the uterus and is divided into the follicular and the ovulation and secretory phases.
