MRKH Madness, by Niki Taylor
Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome is a fairly rare syndrome that affects about 1 in 10,000 women. This syndrome can cause a variety of medical problems including reproductive, skeletal, and renal (kidney) problems. The reproductive problems may include a short or absent vagina, a partial or absent uterus, and infertility. The patient with MRKH has amenorrhea or absence of periods. Even if a patient has a partial uterus, it is usually removed due to stomach pains and the inability of menstruation to leave the body. Normally, the ovaries are fine. Keep in mind that the patient is genetically a female with breasts and feminine body hair. As for the skeletal problems, vertebrae malformations may be present. Other bone malformations may be in the limbs. Renal (kidney) problems are very common. A kidney may be missing or in the wrong place. Another problem MRKH women may experience is hearing loss. Except for the reproductive problems, MRKH women may have all, some or none of these symptoms. Treatments are possible for the reproductive problems. Doctors can form a new vagina through surgery. Another way to create a longer vagina is the use of dilators. These are phallus-shaped instruments that the patient inserts into the vaginal area over periods of time. These procedures take a great deal of patience, but according to many patients, they're worth it. Many patients report satisfactory sexual intercourse after these treatments.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome (MRKH) affects about 1 in 5000 women. The women are born without a uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, and a short or nonexistent vagina. They are genetically female (46XX) with normal external genitalia. They do not have periods. Usually they have normal ovaries. Other problems may include kidney problems, skeletal problems and/or hearing loss. Not all women have all of these symptoms.
There are many treatments available to these women who want to create a vagina. Some have surgery to create a vagina. Some use dilators to stretch the short vagina to the proper length. The dilators are devices that are inserted into the vagina to apply pressure to the lengthen the vagina. Dilation usually has great results, but does take time. Most women are able to have sexual intercourse after treatment to create a vagina. The Women can also choose no treatment at all. These women do not "need" to have treatment, only if they choose to do so.

Wool Fabrics and Knitwear Care
Store Carefully
Always empty pockets and hang wool clothes after wear in a cool, fresh environment. Never cram garments into a confined space. Use hangers which support jacket shoulders and skirt/trouser waistbands. This will help to remove any creases.
Help with Creases
Suits and separates made from a good brands should shed their creases if hung in the steam of the bathroom for a short time and then left overnight.
Lighter Fabric care
Lighter weight fabrics such as Cool Wool and Light Wool also respond to the same treatment, though they may take a little longer to shed their creases. These can also be simply removed by ironing with damp cloth or steam iron on a dot 2 setting.
Caring for Wet Wool
If your wool clothing gets wet, dry it immediately away from direct heat-never in front of fire on a radiator or in strong sunlight. Do Not tumble dry unless the label says it is safe to do so.
Check the label
The care instructions on the label of your wool garment can vary according to the type of wool that it contains . The process and technical treatments applied may also give additional benefits to the garment.
Hand washing Follow the instructions carefully if your garment is carrying the hand wash label. Only use water with maximum temperature of 40c using a mild detergent, preferable woolmark approved.

MRKH syndrome
We've heard of heart malformations and limb deformities but genital malformations? This is part of Mayer Rokitanksy Kuster Hauser Syndrome(MRKH) which includes a short or nonexistent vagina, no cervix, and a partial or absent uterus. The causes are unknown. bodyOffer(31711) Most women find about this when they are teenagers. Some girls may find out at a young age when they have surgeries for some other problems such as hernias. Yet the majority find out when their periods won't come. They despair because sisters got their periods at earlier ages. They think they're "late bloomers". A visit to the obstetrician-gynecologist will be futile when the doctors are unable to do pelvic exams on them because of their short or nonexistent vaginas. Instead doctors use laparoscopic surgery where they insert a light through the navel or they use ultrasound to make a diagnosis. This way, the doctors are able to ascertain the condition of the reproductive organs. Doctors should find normal ovaries and fallopian tubes. However, they should find no uterus or an incomplete one. An incomplete one is usually removed because it may cause cramps. Once the doctors find these problems, the question changes from why haven't I gotten a period to how can a doctor "cure" it? A doctor can't cure the 'no periods' part because the women don't have uteruses. However, there are methods to achieve longer vaginal length through dilation or surgery. Most women have to use dilators, plastic objects that come in increasing sizes as the women use them over time to achieve full vaginal length. In more severe cases, there are several types of surgery available. Understanding partners and these methods usually allow MRKH women to have satisfying sex lives.
