WHO WE ARE Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a medical treatment that saturates the body with 100% oxygen under pressure. In this way, the cells of the body become saturated with oxygen at 10-15 times greater than they would under ambient pressure. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy promotes the growth of new capillaries, reduces swelling, and enhances the bodies ability to fight off infection. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is beneficial in treating non healing wounds, severe burns, and many neurologic and orthopedic conditions. Patients with paralysis from strokes, closed head trauma, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis have had remarkable improvement in strength and function with hyperbarics. There has been an acceleration in the healing of crush injuries, sports injuries as well as skin grafts. SPECIALTIES We specialize in dealing with patients with paralysis associated with prior strokes, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis. We have a special interest in treating patients with diabetic foot ulcers, poor healing wounds, diabetic peripheral neuropathy and recent skin grafts or plastic surgery

What is Multiple Sclerosis?
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the brain and spinal cord. Its exact cause is unknown. Nearly 350,000 people in the United States are affected by MS, with the highest incidence rate occuring in adults between the ages of 20 and 40.
Symptoms vary from person to person and from time to time. The symptoms of MS may include: visual difficulty, speech or memory problems, weakness or fatigue, partial or complete paralysis, poor coordination, bladder dysfunction, pain, or numbness. Many treatments are available that can reduce the number, and severity, of relapses, and also lead to a slowing of the disease's progression. Exercise is encouraged to delay disease progression and optimize energy and fitness. Our Philosophy The North Shore MS Care Center is a multi-discliplinary facility whose focus is on the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with Multiple Sclerosis. Functional ability and independence are the primary goals of the Center. Clinical services provide the foundation for treatment, while rehabilitation and pain management are essential to an improved quality of life. Education and psychosocial support enable individuals, and their families, to continue making important strides. Above all, the patient's needs are the priority.

100. FAQs - Examining The Safety Of Aspartame
Senior Medical Advisor for the multiple sclerosis Foundation, David Squillacote, MD writes about Category Society Issues Artificial Sweeteners Aspartame...... an alarming and controversial report has been circulating on the Internet, claimingthat the artificial sweetener aspartame can cause multiple sclerosis and a

Examining the Safety of Aspartame
Written by Ellen Guthrie, Pharm.D.
For several years, an alarming and controversial report has been circulating on the Internet, claiming that the artificial sweetener aspartame can cause multiple sclerosis and a host of other ailments. Certain versions of the report even claim that MS symptoms will disappear if intake of aspartame is halted. MSFocus frequently receives letters questioning the truth of these allegations. Ellen Guthrie, Pharm.D. now explores the question, is aspartame safe?
Clinically speaking, we can never say that anything (drug, additive, food, device, etc.) is 100 percent safe. We can, however, examine the data and research and differentiate fact from fiction. The Internet is an excellent source of information, but this information is only as reliable as the person posting the information and only as accurate as the data that backs it up.
In 1965, chemist James Schlatter accidentally discovered the high-intensity sweetener known as aspartame. Before its approval in the early 1980's by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), aspartame underwent extensive scientific studies that demonstrated its safety in both animals and humans. Since its approval, some 20 years ago, aspartame has been consumed in more than 6000 products by hundreds of millions of people in hundreds of countries throughout the world. Aspartame is the ingredient that makes many foods (primarily colas) "light," "low-calorie," or "diet." Since it is impossible to detect all side effects in pre-marketing studies, aspartame has undergone extensive post-marketing surveillance to ensure that the additive is safe.
