These facts are of interest to many `healthy' users, but even more so to those who suffer from Asthma, M.E. (myalgic encephalomyelitis), or other allergies and sensitivities. Sufferers from these ailments may be sensitive to infinitesimal amounts of toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde, isocyanates or other VOC's and their avoidance is essential. This is where ECOS can help.
The ECOS range was invented and commercialised in 1989 by two U.K. scientists who were affected themselves by VOC's - one had asthma and the other had M.E.(myalgic encephalomyelitis) and M.C.S.
The ECOS range now numbers nearly 3000 products and is supplied mail - order on a `next day delivery' basis (all methods of payment accepted, including credit/debit cards).
ECOS has been used in countless schools, hotels, restaurants, clinics, hospitals, ecoprojects, offices, cinemas, private homes and other projects where ultimate air purity is required.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Definition

Treatment
Definition: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is one of fifty names for an illness that has caused suffering since the 1850s. Some other names for this illness are Chronic Epstein-Barr Virus Disease, Chronic Fatigue, and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS), and Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome (PVFS). The emphasis is put on 'fatigue'. Chronic means ongoing and therefore refers to a fatigue that is long-lasting. The term Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is used primarily in North America. Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) is used in most other countries. It can be best understood when broken down into its individual parts. As you look at the term it becomes clear that the emphasis is on the central nervous system. My - muscle
algic - pain
encephalo - brain
myel - spinal cord
itis - inflammation Neither term is satisfactory. People with CFS have many other symptoms contributing to their disability besides fatigue. Seldom is an infection in the brain found in those who have ME as was once suspected. CFS/ME affects thousands of men, women and children. The majority of sufferers seem to be women between the ages of 30 and 50. Generally these people are high functioning, productive individuals. There are some differences in how children of different age groups are affected by the illness. This topic is dealt with later.

European journal of neurology, 1999, 6, 63 - 69. One of the main differences between ME and most cases of CFS is the phenomenon of prolonged muscle fatigue after minimal exertion. However, the research on muscle function during and after exercise as been far from illuminating. Some studies (on patients with CFS) have found an abnormality during exertion but most have not. Moreover, none have detected an obvious problem during the recovery phase. On the basis of this research, psychiatrists claimed that the vast majority of fatigued patients don't have anything wrong with their muscles and that exercise when tired was therefore safe. However, it is now generally accepted that CFS covers a number of disorders, so what is safe for one fatigue syndrome may not be safe for another.

Blue Ribbon for the Awareness of M.E.
The Aims of BRAME
  • To create awareness and understanding that ME is a very real, and for many, a very debilitating illness.
  • To publicise and create awareness of the severity and widespread nature of the illness.
  • To publicise and create awareness of the consequences of living with ME for the sufferer, carer and the whole family unit and to highlight their needs.
  • To generally offer support, understanding and friendship to all those affected by ME.
  • Through publicity reach as many sufferers and carers of ME/CFS as possible, as they often feel quite isolated by the debilitation of the ME and the scepticism they often face.
  • To stimulate discussion and subsequent understanding of ME.
  • To increase awareness of ME amongst:
    • members of the medical profession
    • educationalists
    • employers
    • politicians
    • society in general
  • To promote the international links with individuals, groups, medical professionals and researchers in ME or ME linked illnesses.
  • To support, help and develop the BRAME campaign around the world using the Blue Ribbon and the BRAME badge as universal symbols to create a greater awareness and understanding of ME.
  • To raise funds in the UK and around the world to be used to promote the aims of BRAME and donate to research into ME.

This discussion paper was produced to provide a backdrop to the deliberations of the Chief Medical Officer's Working Group on CFS/ME, and to facilitate its duty to: "... produce good practice and information, based on the most up to date understanding of the illness, on aspects of clinical management for adults and children with CFS/ME." 1) How strong is the current evidence, where are the gaps and what do we need to fill them? 2) What are the important clinical and management questions which need to be addressed? http://www.derek-kew.co.uk/ME and CFS.html
Hypnosis and ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) and CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) The literature abounds with confusion as to what Myaligic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) is. There also remains the confusion as to differences between M.E. and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (C.F.S.). Some would describe them as one of the same thing, whereas others such as Action for M.E. make distinctions between each of them. A good resource for further information can be found at www.cfs-news.org
Until such a time that the exact nature of both M.E. and C.F.S. have been clearly defined I will, for the sake of simplicity, refer to them interchangeably.
Most, if not all, physical dis-ease involves psychological components. There is much research evidence to the fact that mind and body are an integrated whole and not separate aspects of the individual. The writings of Dr E. Rossi in The Psychobiology of Mind-Body Healing provide an excellent source of further understanding of how the "mind" can influence our physical health.
In addition to the use of hypnosis, other therapy of the psyche would include cognitive behavioural approaches. It is frequently important to draw distinctions between factors that may have been involved in the start of your illness and those that may presently be keeping it going.

Prev Next Volume 2, Number 2
The M.E./Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Society of Victoria is a new non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome community in Victoria and Tasmania. It focuses on correctly managing the symptoms of the disease. The symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome include overwhelming exhaustion, both physical and cognitive, memory and concentration impairment, and intense flu like feeling, muscle pain, sleep disturbance, headaches, and disturbance of balance. In an effort to help the victims of CFS, the M.E./Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Society of Victoria runs many support groups throughout Victoria and Tasmania, publishes a quarterly magazine focusing on research updates and contributions from members, and can provide names of qualified CFS doctors. Additionally, the group is actively involved in lobbying political leaders regarding the needs of people with CFS and appropriate resource allocation, educating the public and the public health officials about CFS and raising community awareness of the disease and its effects. For more information on the ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Society of Victoria visit their website at http://home.vicnet.net.au
