If you are a woman experiencing symptoms such as pain during sexual intercourse or pain during your periods that interferes with your full life, you have arrived at the right place. Pain during sexual intercourse or during menstruation are common conditions. Sometimes these conditions, known as dyspareunia (pain during intercourse) and dysmenorrhea (pain during menstruation), are due to a retroverted uterus or a prolapsed uterus. Dyspareunia and dysmenorrhea as well as other related conditions can cause physical as well as emotional distress and can effect intimate relationships. Although you may think you are alone, a surprisingly large number of women experience these pelvic pain conditions regardless of marital status, age, income, race or child bearing history.

09/04/02 Greetings once again from pain HQ! We greatly appreciate your enthusiasmand continuing interest in pain stuff! Take care and keep in touch! Pose.
http://www.thepainpage.com/
Greetings once again from Pain HQ! At long last we have finally overhauled the PainPage. While it looks completely different, you will still find the same basic elements, with a few updates, revisions, improvements. First, you will notice that we no longer accept checks or money orders as a form of payment for merchandise orders. This means that the secure online shopping cart is now the only way to purchase merchandise from the PainPage. We doubt this will cause much of a problem for anyone, but in the event it does provide a substantial impediment to your shopping needs, just email our HQ (at info@thepainpage.com ) and we can work something out. Second, I'm sure you will notice that the merchandise section has changed. Due to certain difficulties that we have had in the past with some of our distributors, we have scaled back the regular merchandise that we have in our full-time catalogue. In the future we will likely add certain items such as shirts, etc, but only for a temporary amount of time, allowing us flexibility in our product line and in our abilty to offer a wider variety of items. Cds, of course, will be permanent items that will not rotate out of availability. Finally, I wanted to add a special thanks to everyone for all of your support over these many years. We greatly appreciate your enthusiasm and continuing interest in Pain stuff! Take care and keep in touch!

Introduction: The Universal Disorder
You know it at once. It may be the fiery sensation of a burn moments after your finger touches the stove. Or it's a dull ache above your brow after a day of stress and tension. Or you may recognize it as a sharp pierce in your back after you lift something heavy. It is pain. In its most benign form, it warns us that something isn't quite right, that we should take medicine or see a doctor. At its worst, however, pain robs us of our productivity, our well-being, and, for many of us suffering from extended illness, our very lives. Pain is a complex perception that differs enormously among individual patients, even those who appear to have identical injuries or illnesses. In 1931, the French medical missionary Dr. Albert Schweitzer wrote, "Pain is a more terrible lord of mankind than even death itself." Today, pain has become the universal disorder, a serious and costly public health issue, and a challenge for family, friends, and health care providers who must give support to the individual suffering from the physical as well as the emotional consequences of pain.

    The One-Minute
    (or so)
    Healer
    by Dana Ullman
    Arthritis
Sir William Osler, considered to be the "Father of Modern Medicine," once said, "When an arthritis patient walks in the front door, I feel like leaving by the back door." And it is no wonder that it pained Dr. Osler to try to treat arthritic patients there is little that conventional medicine offers these individuals. The lucky ones get temporary relief along with drug side effects; the unlucky ones only get the side effects. The word arthritis means "inflammation of a joint," and there are various ways in which people experience this. There are dozens of kinds of arthritis: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, systemic lupus, and bursitis, to name just a few. The good news is that arthritis will rarely kill you. The bad news is that the stiffness that sufferers experience can make them feel as though rigor mortis has set in early. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis. Sometimes called the "wear and tear" variety of arthritis, osteoarthritis is thought to be a natural result of aging. This is just a theory; however, as evidenced by the 93-year-old man from Chicago who developed osteoarthritis in his left knee. When his doctor told him that it was a result of aging, the wise man remarked, "My other knee is 93 years old, too, and it don't hurt a bit."

    http://www.clinicalphysics-blt.org.uk/com-rp.htm
    Complex Regional Pain Syndromes
    Synonyms:
Sudeck's atrophy, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, Shoulder-Hand Syndrome). A number of cases of persistent and intense limb pain, frequently following some local injury, are associated with vasomotor disturbances and trophic changes, due to irritation/damage of the peripheral sympathetic nerves. This results in abnormal distribution of blood flow between the skin and the deep tissues of the limb, including the bone. The persistent vasoconstriction of the bone arterioles may be responsible for the bone rarefaction, sometimes shown by radiographs in severe cases. Although this sign was once used as a diagnostic criterion, its rarity produces a considerable number of false negatives. Microvascular Investigations
Thermography of the upper or lower limbs is a highly sensitive diagnostic tool for the Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Limbs with sympathetically mediated pain tend to exhibit an erratic vasomotor behaviour, which is sometimes demonstrated as marked thermal instability by a high-sensitivity Infrared Thermographic Camera. This abnormal behaviour is best elicited by means of a mild cold stress to the contralateral (non-affected) limb. The affected side, instead of a parallel decrease of the limb temperature as observed in normal subjects, exhibits a temperature increase. In other less severe cases, areas of abnormal sympathetic activity are elicited subsequent to direct cold stress applied to the affected side. Finger Nailfold Capillaroscopy is usually performed when Thermography is normal, since a number of Connective Tissue Disorders with marked arthralgia can mimic the clinical features of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.
