What is the prognosis?
What research is being done? ... Organizations What is Paresthesia? Is there any treatment? The appropriate treatment for paresthesia depends on accurate diagnosis of the underlying cause. What is the prognosis? The prognosis for those with paresthesia depends on the severity of the sensations and the associated disorder(s). What research is being done? The NINDS supports research on disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves that can cause paresthesia. The goals of this research are to increase scientific understanding of these disorders and to find ways to prevent, treat, and cure them. Organizations NINDS health-related material is provided for information purposes only and does not necessarily represent endorsement by or an official position of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke or any other Federal agency. Paresthesia combines great sounding music with theoretical complexity and technical proficiency. Our newer songs experiment with odd-meter timings and polyrhythms. All recordings so far have been on a 4-track tape recorder, and with the use of only 4-5 mics for drums, bass, and two guitars. The songs featured on this site have no recorded vocals. Although many of the songs have lyrics we can't record them with our current equipment. Thanks go out to Bill and The Fossils for the use of their mics and mixer and to Danny for the use of his cymbals on tracks 4, 5, 7, 11, and 12 of the CD.

What is the Relationship Between Paresthesia and Nerve Stimulation for Axillary Brachial Plexus Block? Choyce et al. Reg Anes and Pain Med, 26(2), 2001: 100-4. (Editorial, pp. 97-99) Reviewed by: R. Prasad, MD Summary:
    • avoid doing blocks under deep sedation
    Comments:
    • Interesting study, but not sure how it applies to our practice, or what to make of the data. Clearly needs more study. Does this apply to other blocks? Are pediatric nerves different (i.e., why is it probably safe, as per large outcomes studies, to do blocks in sleeping pediatric patients)? Why was twitch site different than paresthesia site in 19%? Needle movement? Nerve composition? Type of needle used? Needle type. Results probably do not apply to insulated, short-bevel needles.
Long bevel needles. Easier to elicit paresthesia. What does that mean?
      Paresthesias.
Is it really the "gold standard" for being close enough to the nerve? Only 88.7% developed complete sensory block at paresthesia site. Of remaining 11.3% (incomplete blocks), half (5.7%) needed >0.5mA to elicit twitch.
How many of the 88.7% needed >0.5mA to elicit twitch? If 0, then only 5.7% of pts had paresthesia requiring >0.5 mA

Help! I have been experiencing paresthesia in my left leg continually, plus more transient paresthesia in other parts of my body. The sensations include tingling, burning and prickling. I have also had bladder urgency, some vertigo, and ventricular tachycardia characterized by short episodes of very slow (35) beats. I have had numerous MS tests including MRI's, Evoked Potentials, Nerve Conduction, EKG and EchoCardiogram. All the tests except for the Echo have been negative. I received a shot of B-12 which had no effect. I also have had a continual herpes outbreak on my buttocks . I am a 46 yr old woman. I would appreciate any info on similar experiences or other advice.
