21. Our Introduction & Brief Outline...
throughout the world, who have devastatingly, experienced/are going through theheartbreaking 'loss' of a baby, especially in the case of 'potters syndrome'.
http://fp.angeljack.plus.com/page105.htm
Song Playing: Titanic Our Introduction Written September 12th 2002 Welcome! Here is just a brief introduction of ourselves so you can maybe get to 'know' us just a little before you embark on our most tragic and heartbreaking journey that we have been traveling through since the summer of 2000. Sophie is now approaching 12 years old, our Ben, just 4... Our Angel Jack would have been celebrating his 2nd Birthday this November 27th 2002, and our newest Angel Samuel, he would have now been just over 6 months old... We sincerely hope that through our babies website, for anyone having or has gone through the heartbreaking 'loss' of a baby/child, that some comfort may be found... The online Potters Forum Support Group has been an immense part of my own healing process these past 2 years... Being part of an online support group, with members who actually 'know' what you are going through, is an immediate comfort in itself, although sadly, since I have been a member of this group, it has slowly grown larger and larger, which is the most saddest part... For every new member that we welcome on the Forum, it means another precious unborn child has been either diagnosed with/possibility of, or that their baby has actually been born and 'lost' to Potters Syndrome'!

Baby Jessica
by Jana Date: Sun, 31 Jan 1999 As I sit here and read all these heart breaking stories feeling terrible for all these people, I felt is was about time for me to open up and share my story with you. We were so excited. When the day came me, my husband, and my dad made the drive to the hospital. At that time I was given my last ultrasound to see the position of the baby. She was still breach. Also at that time I was told that her lungs looked a little under developed; that at worst she would have to stay in the hospital for an extra 2-3 weeks. But once again, "not to worry." We went into delivery all excited. All I can remember was seeing all the doctors and nurses faces. For awhile I didn't hear her cry. It seems like forever but she did. I asked if everything was ok. They said yes. She had a hard time breathing but everything would be fine. They wouldn't let me see her. She needed to be cleaned and put on oxygen. We started to get very upset but we did remember what the doctor did say about her lungs. I was put in recovery when a doctor came in to tell me that the baby's heart was in distress. HER HEART!

*For Medical Professionals only, registration required Potter's syndrome, (Edith Potter, born 1901, American pathologist) (also called Potter's sequence). Clinical manifestations are those of an infant with a dysmorphic facies: a flat face, widely spaced eyes, low ears, micrognathia; with fetal growth retardation, limb anomalies such as rocker bottom feet and severe oligohydramnios secondary to renal agenesis or dysplasia. The renal disease leads to pulmonary hypoplasia and the children may present with pneumothorax and pneumomediastinum.

*For Medical Professionals only, registration required Agenesis, renal, absence of the kidney. Bilateral renal agenesis is not compatible with life. The diagnosis is often made antenatally either at routine second trimester ultrasound when reduction or complete absence of liquor will be demonstrated. The kidneys are not seen and enlarged adrenal glands fill the renal fossae. In later pregnancy failure of enlargement of the uterus appropriate for the gestational age, and oligohydramnios are the usual ultrasound findings of the condition. Babies born with this condition usually have typical Potter facies (see Potters syndrome Unilateral renal agenesis is usually asymptomatic the absence of one kidney being diagnosed incidentally. Some cases of unilateral renal agenesis are diagnosed in the antenatal period on routine midtrimester scanning when no kidney is demonstrated on one side of the abdomen. Care must be taken to check all possible sites for the apparently absent kidney including the pelvis and to consider the possibility of a thoracic kidney or crossed fused ectopia. The contralateral kidney in situations of renal agenesis is usually hypertrophied but otherwise normal. Associated renal abnormalities are common.
