http://www.capederm.com/info_rosacea.htm
Rosacea I. Definition: Rosacea is a common face rash of adults. Rosacea is only a skin condition and is not related to your general health. Rosacea has three stages. In the first stage the face gets red. This redness sometimes merges into the normal variants of ruddy or blushy complexion types. The redness often persists after cold exposure or after exposure to irritants like soap. With time, small blood vessels develop making the redness more noticeable. Many patients will develop stinging or burning sensations and the skin will often feel tight. The skin feels like a mild sunburn with smiling, frowning, or squinting. Sometimes this progresses to the point that everything the patient puts on his or her face stings, burns, and irritates. In the second stage of rosacea, the redness covers a larger area of the face. Slight swelling, pimples, and pustules develop. This is especially noticeable on the nose, mid-forehead, and chin. As the condition progresses, prominent facial pores can develop. The third stage is characterized by swelling and growth of the nose and central facial areas. At times the ears may be

According to Dr. Geoffrey Nase, Ph.D. Microvascular Physiologist, in his new book, which is probably one of the most comprehensive work of medical information on rosacea published in book form to date, he lists one of the longest list of some of the proposed triggers (or causes) as follows; "bacteria, yeast, mites, blood vessel damage, nerve dysfunction, systemic infection, gastrointestinal abnormalities, immune system alterations, psychological problems, liver problems, leaky intestines, collagen damage, sun damage, skin irritation, hormonal variations, stress, exercise, facial parasites, blood toxins, sebaceous gland hyperactivity, hair follicle abnormalities, stomach hyperacidity, nervous system defects, cardiovascular abnormalities, food allergies, environmental damage, etc..." However, Dr. Nase discounts the above proposed triggers as causes stating that "rosacea is surrounded by confusion, unproven theories, and erroneous speculation." For instance, he says the H. Pylori theory is only a minimally important rosacea trigger, that there is no evidence that liver problems cause or worsen rosacea, and that the demodex mite plays no real role in the development of rosacea 'except for the odd pustule.' Dr. Nase states in his book that "rosacea is primarily a facial vascular disorder in which the affected blood vessels are functionally and structurally abnormal" and "

WHAT IS ROSACEA
WHAT CAUSES ROSACEA? THE COURSE OF THE CONDITION POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS ... HOW CAN ROSACEA BE TREATED?
WHAT IS ROSACEA Rosacea is a common skin disorder that causes red patches, 'pimples', bumps and 'burst' capillaries on the face. In some cases it can also affect the eyes. Rosacea can occur at any age but is most likely to start in fair skinned people in their 30's and 40's. It very rarely affects children.
The first symptoms noticed by people with rosacea is a tendency to blush (facial flushing) which becomes more frequent and more noticeable. Some things such as alcohol, which causes facial redness in most people, are likely to cause a more rapid and prolonged flushing or redness in people with rosacea. Eventually the redness of the face becomes constant, only changing in intensity. The areas most likely to be affected are over the nose and cheeks, but it can affect the whole face, ears and neck.
On this background of more intense than usual skin redness there may also appear, small, dilated blood vessels known as telangiectases. Sometimes referred to as 'burst capillaries', these telangiectases are seen as a fine red pattern just below the surface of the skin.

    Origins of SkinCell
SkinCell was established in August 2002 because we saw that whilst there are many very informative and resourceful sites on the Web, very few concentrated on the psychological trauma that we skin sufferers face. The majority of those great sites specialise in a single skin condition, a few concentrate on all dermatological conditions, even fewer address the serious issue of patient well-being. Here at SkinCell we have attempted to make available to all skin sufferers and their families an open and free forum where they can discuss any skin condition they choose.

SkinCell offers a lively and friendly Forum for its members including:
