SIDS is not a disease, SIDS is basically a fancy way of saying, "We have no idea why this baby died." I hope this site will also offer parents and other family members a comfort zone online to come to when they need to talk freely about the baby they love and miss so much. I have been told many times by grieving parents that they felt like they'd come home when they found SIDS Families, and I am truly proud that what I've done in memory of my son Jacob has touched the lives of so many others in such positive ways. I hope that you find comfort and support here as well. This site is my work to make SIDS more bearable for the families whose child has died. It's become virtually impossible really hard for me to keep up with everything and still find time for my family but I do the very best that I can! At the bottom of the page you will find links to various pages here on the site. The most popular sections of the site are the postcards, the letters to heaven, dove friends, the message board and of course, the nursery where families have requested a memorial page for their child. Sometimes angels leave this world early so that we can feel what they mean to us and think about what they stand for and stood for in life. Helen Keller Rainbows, Stars, and Butterflies Anonymous Perhaps it was the sunshine or it may have been the rain, that let me find a place I'd lost when hate I had gained. I searched among forgotten dreams then paused with a sigh, for on a nearby cloud I found "Rainbows happen when angels cry". Questions I began to find, and answers for each one. What is the source of butterflies, the rising of the sun? "The sun comes up when angels laugh" was written on the moon, and "Butterflies are angel smiles" was on a flower's bloom. Snowflakes I found with a teddy bear, a friend of many years. Snowflakes", he said with shining eyes, "are happy angel tears". "Break an angel's heart, a star goes out" hung from a cruel thorn. By first love's light, in letters bright "when it mends, a star is born". As I left that place a kindly voice whispered from above, "There is a thing you can do which exceeds these wonders grand." Then two words sweet, in letters neat appeared in the sand........ "People Love".

REDUCING THE RISK What Can Be Done? Unfortunately, we cannot expect to prevent all SIDS deaths now. To do so requires a much greater understanding of SIDS, which will be achieved only with a commitment from those who value babies and with a considerably expanded research effort. However, there are things that can be done to reduce the risk of SIDS. There are things that parents-to-be can do and there are things that parents can do. Parents-To-Be Get medical care early in pregnancy, preferably within the first three months, followed by regular checkups at the doctor's office or health clinic. Make every effort to assure good nutrition. These measures can reduce the risk of premature birth, a major risk factor for SIDS. Do not smoke, use cocaine, or use heroin. Tobacco, cocaine, or heroin use during pregnancy increases the infant's risk for SIDS Take care to prevent becoming pregnant during the teenage years. If you are a teen and already have one infant, take extreme caution not to become pregnant again. The SIDS rate decreases for babies born to older mothers. It is highest for babies born to teenage mothers. The more babies a teen mother has, the greater at risk they are.
