The Back Pain Problem
Back ache, lumbago, disc rupture, slipped disc, back spasms, sciatica - call it what you like, the pain's the same.
It starts right smack in the low back and grows hour by hour while you slouch at your computer, at the ball-game or behind the wheel on a long trip. Sound familiar? Experts say, back pain can often be prevented by developing simple habits - like sitting straight. But when it comes to sitting, simple is not easy. Developing the strength to sit straight is, in fact, a feat rarely achieved. Our muscles tire easily and we soon find ourselves crumpled up in a painful slump against the back of our chair. As a rule of thumb, if your feel back pain, you're injuring your back. When your muscles give up, lasting disc damage begins. You know what happens when you bite one side of a soft ice cream sandwich: all the good stuff squishes out the back, right? Similarly, when you slouch, your vertebrae "bite' down on the front side of your lumbar discs. This uneven pressure makes the soft fluid core bulge against the back of the disc. Over time this can lead to disc degeneration and very serious back problems. How the Nada Chair can help Nada-Chair products are not a cure for back problems. On the other hand, our supports can provide the critical help you need in preventing these problems from developing in the first place. Nada-Chair corrects back posture and as a bonus give you the most comfortable sitting experience Money can buy.

I know there are some of you that know the name Slipped Disk. Some of you might even know that I've been the technician at Slipped Disk for the past 12 years. After 20 years, Slipped Disk is no more. I've been watching and participating(not much recently) on this list for a while now and I know there are many of you that are out of work currently but I thought I'd throw my name on the list. I don't have my full resume up yet but it will be in the near-future. I've pretty much been a jack-of-all-trades from computer repair to programming to network administration(Slipped Disk's network infrastructure was entirely Linux-based.) If you know of anything out there, I would very much appreciate it if you let me know. Thank you

These bones protect nerves as they exit the brain and travel down the back throughout the entire body. The spinal column is divided into several segments; the cervical spine (the neck), the thoracic spine (the part of the back behind the chest), the lumbar spine (lower back) and sacral spine (the part connected to the pelvis that does not move). The spinal vertebrae are separated by cartilage disks, filled with a gelatinous substance, that provide cushioning to the spinal column. These disks may herniate or rupture from trauma or strain , especially if degenerative changes have occurred in the disk.

DISK IS SLIPPED, BULGING, AND HERNIATED... HELP!
Dear Alice, What is the difference between a slipped disk, a bulge in a lumbar disk, and a herniated disk? I am (for the past two months) experiencing severe back pain which radiated down my left leg. My MRI results came back and the nurse from the office said I had "disk disease" and "degeneration" as well as a "slipped disk." The doctor called me later and told me I have a "bulge" and an "arthritic" spine condition. I am trying to understand what the various terms mean (slipped vs. bulge vs. herniated). Could you tell me what the distinctions are? Dear Reader, Let's start at the top, or rather the back. Your spine is a column of thirty-three small bones called vertebrae. These bones create a protective tunnel for your spinal cord, a bundle of nerves that relay messages between the brain and the body. In between each vertebra is a small piece of disk-shaped cartilage. These "disks" act as a cushion and prevent the vertebrae from grinding against each other when you "do the Twist" or anything else that involves moving your back. Degenerative disk disease is a form of arthritis. This statement might be controversial, according to some. There's degenerative disk disease and degenerative osteoarthritis, but they're not necessarily considered the same. Other forms of arthritis also affect the spine, such as osteoarthritis of the spine, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.

Slipped disk pain Audio link of text below Disks are small sections of cartilage found between each of the vertebrae (VER-tih-bray) of the spine. Pain results when these disks are moved or "slipped" out of place, allowing the vertebrae to compress nerves in the back. Slipped disks can result from falls, twists, strains, poor posture, and excessive weight. Repairing this condition may be as simple as rest and exercise, or it may require surgery in more severe cases. Consult your physician for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Herniated nucleus pulposus (slipped disk)
Overview Symptoms Treatment Prevention Definition: A condition in which part or all of the soft, gelatinous central portion of an intervertebral disk (the nucleus pulposus) is forced through a weakened part of the disk, resulting in back pain and leg pain caused by nerve root irritation.

A herniated disk -which is sometimes called a slipped, ruptured or prolapsed disk -causes severe back problems and pain. You usually get a herniated disk when the soft pads that act as a cushion between the bones of your spine, called disks, are weakened or damaged. This happens because the inner core of the disk, which is sponge-like, starts to bulge or pop out of its outer coating, and then press against the nerves located on the spinal column. This may cause severe discomfort, and lead to long term or chronic back pain. You may also feel tingling and numbness in other areas of your body such as your legs or feet.

In reply to your questions'there is no doubt in my mind that what I have been suffering from for years is not all due to spodilolysis. I to have a slipped disk at L5-S1. I went to the best drs. in manhatten only to be informed that spinal fusion was my only alternative. I just keep putting it off because as we al have seen in people who have gone through this procedure-it isn,t the cure all we all hope for. In the meanwhile as I became incapacited ,unable to walk and still suffering from extreme pain extreme pain I came upon an article that described PAD. I had never heard of it before but I immediately knew that was what I was suffering from. The doctors regulated my blood pressure by using vasodilaters and and miraculously, I do not suffer from any debilitating back problems or sciatica any longer. I can walk ,lift things and bend just like a kid again!
I imagine that my muscles were not receiving an adequate amount of oxygen, therefore causing them to spasm and in the process pushing out my disk. The disk would then inbinge on a nerve thus causing the pain.Good Luck!

Herniated Intervertebral Disk What Is It? A herniated disk, also known as a slipped disk, is a protrusion of the central portion of one of the flat, circular pads found in the joints between the bones of the spine (vertebrae). A slipped disk can cause symptoms by pressing either on a nerve leaving the spinal cord or on the spinal cord itself.
Each disk has a soft and gelatinous inner portion surrounded by a tough outer ring that allows it to act as a shock absorber between the bones of the spine. Weakness or trauma may allow the inner portion to push through the outer ring (in some cases compressing one of the spinal nerves and causing pain and numbness in the neck or along an arm or leg). A herniated disk may then rupture. In a rupture, the soft gel squeezes through the outer shell and may press on the nerves. The intervertebral disks in the neck and especially the lumbar spine are the most likely to rupture.
