Tendonitis Prevention for Programmers
Thomas Wang, August 1997 last update April 2002
The Beginning
My occupation is computer programming. The job involves significant amount of typing. About 3 years ago, I started to develop symptoms of hand tingling and numbness. These symptoms are associated with long stretchs of typing on keyboards. Gradually, these symptoms got worse, until I have to seek a doctor for treatment. The doctor said I have tendonitis. If it becomes worse, then it would develop to full carpel tunnel syndrome. My computer career would be in big trouble. What follows is a course of treatment and trouble shooting of the work environment. I am glad to say that today I am completely symptoms free. If the work environment is correctly set up, then there should be good chance to avoid the problems of tendonitis, or carpel tunnel syndrome.
Treatment
First on treatment. My treatment involves putting cold packs on my wrists. After the cold pack, Cortizone cream is ultra-sounded in the wrists area. This is received from Doctor ordered physical therapy. Physical therapy folks treat athletic injuries and work place injuries. I have heard some doctors will just issue some Advil tablets and call it a day. This by itself is ineffective except for the lightest form of tendonitis.

Achilles Tendonitis
A chilles tendonitis, enthesis, tenosynovitis, and bursitis are all terms that can be used interchangeably for the pain associated with the posterior or the back of the heel of the human foot.
The achilles tendon is the co-joined tendon of the Gastrocnemius and the soleus muscle which form the thickened tendon at the back of the leg as it inserts into the calcaneous (heel bone). This structure becomes inflamed and damaged from a variety of mechanical forces: pronation (inward tilting of the heel) or supination (outward tilting of the heel); excessive weight; over-use, such as running or tennis or other sport activities; and sometimes metabolic problems, such as diabetes arthritis or even gout can play a major role in inflammation of the achilles tendon. However, most achilles tendon problems are mechanical in nature. The following devices are usually effective in controlling this altered biomechanical problem:
    • The Achilles Tendon Strap is very good in over-use injuries that runners would experience.
    • Shortened achilles tendons (equinus deformities) are usually acquired by people who have worn high heeled shoes (any heel that is over an inch high) and who experience pain when they try to go down to a lower heeled shoe. The achilles shortening is best relieved with stretching exercises. The

To: "'sota@200.com'" Subject: Thank You Date: Wed, 29 Dec 1999 11:18:56 -0800 I wanted to let you know what a wonderful product your knee wrap is. I have a 14 year daughter who plays basketball, volleyball and softball (at the same time) and was suffering from patella tendonitis. I ordered one of the knee wraps and in 3 days the swelling was completely gone. From time to time it will reoccur and she will immediately put the wrap on. Usually in less than 12 hours she is as good as new. Recently she suffered a deep thigh bruise and moved the knee wrap up to the thigh and in 2 days it was as good as new. I just ordered a second knee wrap because she wants to wear one on each knee every night to prevent any further pain associated with the patella tendonitis.

The tendon is the structure in your body that connects your muscles to the bones . The skeletal muscles in your body are responsible for moving your bones, thus enabling you to walk, jump, lift, and move in many ways. When a muscle contracts it pulls on a bone to cause movements. The structure that transmits the force of the muscle contraction to the bone is called a tendon. Tendons come in many shapes and sizes. Some are very small, like the ones that cause movements of

Achilles tendinitis is a syndrome of irritation of the achilles tendon in the ankle. The achilles tendon is the large tendon in the back of the ankle that inserts into the heel bone (calcaneus). When individuals overuse their achilles tendon it becomes irritated and inflamed. This inflammation can cause pain and swelling. Furthermore, this can lead to small tears within the tendon, and make the achilles tendon susceptible to rupture. What causes achilles tendinitis?

Achilles tendinitis is a painful and often debilitating inflammation of the Achilles tendon, also called the heel cord. This large tendon is an extension of the two calf muscles; it runs down the back of the lower leg and attaches to the heel bone (calcaneus). The Achilles tendon connects the strong leg muscles to the foot and gives us the ability to rise up on our toes, facilitating the act of walking. The Achilles tendon is vital to our ability to walk upright and Achilles tendonitis can make walking almost impossible. Available from: www.PowerHealth.org Digestive Support: This complete digestive enzyme formula contains Bromelain. Bromelain has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties that will reduce internal inflammations. These inflammations can be inflamed joints, or inflamed organs such as the prostate. However, in order for Bromelain to demonstrate its anti-inflammatory action, it must be taken on an empty stomach. The reason is simple. If there is food in your stomach, then Bromelain, along with the other digestive enzymes, will be used up to digest your food. If taken without food, then the entire digestive enzymes formula will find it way into the blood stream, unused. Digestive enzymes, when present in the blood, will greatly help reduce the effects of RBC Rouleau and RBC Aggregation. (See section on Pain .) When the Bromelain that has found its way into the blood stream comes in contact with inflamed tissues, that is when Bromelain will demonstrate its anti-inflammatory properties. NOTE: Individuals with extreme cases of Gastritis, Gastric or Duodenal Ulcers should begin their Enzyme Supplementation with "Gastric-EEZ" and gradually transition over to Digestive Support in approximately 4-6 weeks. This is due to the situation that Protease may temporarily have a burning sensation on individuals with these situations, thus Gastric-EEZ does not contain Protease.

About this site
A
horse's legs, particularly the forelegs, are by far the most common sites for injuries. With each stride, the horse's front legs take the brunt of the concussive forces of his hooves hitting the ground. This can result in both soft tissue injury and fractures.
Many leg injuries occur when horses are trained too hard, too fast or on a hard surface. Rapid, hard training doesn't allow time for the bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons to adjust to additional stress Injury can also occur when the horse has poor conformation, is worked on an uneven surface, is bandaged too tightly, or lacks balanced trimming and proper shoeing.
Common symptoms include
• lameness
• pain
• swelling and inflammation
• reluctance to complete a training session.
